Packing for young kids:potty seat?

I am trying to round up items needed for our cruise. We will be taking our toddler.mhe has been on a cruise before, but was only 8 months at the time. We overpacked on that trip. ;) He currently uses a potty chair, but I know that will not be practical to bring. What about bringing a potty seat (just the seat part) that is made to fit on the big toilet? Has anyone brought one, and did it fit on the Carnival toilets?

What else would you recommend as a "definitely pack" for a 2-3 year old? We are bringing his essentials (clothes, undies, wet wipes, shoes, etc) a few sand/beach toys, his leap pad (for the long drive), an umbrella stroller, a toddler backpack with a tether, (aka child leash for ports lol) some snack pouches, and we are allowing him to bring one small stuffed animal and a book for bedtime. Do you recommend anything else?

We bought a potty seat on board. Fit perfectly.

Unfortunately we forgot it when we left.

The Family board has lots of info on what to pack.

Hi,

Where would I find this board. I am having problems getting some answers about babies. Maybe someone on the rolls call might know the answer.

My question is: my great nephew is 6 months old, we want to book a Vista suit for him and his parents but I am told they can do that. My question is why can't they put a crib in a suite, there is lots of room.

We want to book 3 suites on the Carnival Miracle but the carnival agent is not budging about a crib and baby is a suite.

Any comments would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Dianne from Canada

The Family board is under Special Interest Cruising.

Cabins are capacity controlled. Need to put him and his parents in a cabin for three. It's a SOLAS regulation for lifeboat seats. Triple cabins have a star on them, ie 6203 is a triple suite.

Typically, you can only put the number of people in a room that there are beds for. You can't put 3 people in a 2 person room. Even, if by putting a crib in there, a baby could sleep there. There has to be an actual bed that's available for the baby, even if they don't use it.

What size suite are you trying to book?

Another issue may be the lifeboat capacity for the suite you are trying to book. It's possible that the lifeboat capacity has been reached for the lifeboat that room is assigned to.

check that big A to Z website.... I just bought a travel toilet seat for my youngest grand child that folds up and has a carry bag. for less than 15$. It's called Mommies Helper, cushie folded travel pottie seat. fits neatly on the big seat ...

would take up less space than trying to bring a regular potty seat.

http://boards.cruisecritic.com/forumdisplay.php?f=49 There you go...The Family Cruise link.

A child MUST be 6 months old ON the sail date, or they will not be allowed to board....

Poster who was talking about her great nephew, said he's already 6 months old.

I'd suggest puddle jumper or arm floaties for the young children. It will ease your mind for water works/pool areas and let the kids feel more comfortable. Also don't know if the child sleeps with a sound machine or anything but that is something to be considered. If you have a smartphone there are free apps for that.

If you're going to bring anything, bring a puddle jumper, at least, they are Coast-Guard approved for safety.

Arm floaties - dangerous. There have been many near-drownings (especially for younger kids) because once the inflatables have raised their arms above their head, they can't force them down and then their head is underwater.

Could you book your great-nephew in your room by chance (does your room accomodate more than just the two of you?) and then he could just stay with his parents once on board. My understanding is Carnival isn't too concerned with who sleeps where once on board, just that the correct number of people were booked per room for safety/life boats, etc.

I asked this for our April cruise on the family board and got a large range of answers. I ended up buying a really cheap small plastic potty chair and carried it on board in my beach bag. I was worried, but no one even noticed. It worked just fine. I think it was $5 on Amazon.

The puddle jumper is amazing & we travel with a lightweight car seat.

When my son was potty-training I would have him stand on public toilet seats and I would help him "aim" into the toilet (he was way too short to stand in front of toilet and make it). I bought disposable seat covers if he needed to poop in public. I would bring the potty seat if you think that's helpful for your cabin toilet. Bring a child life vest or puddle jumper and all meds you may even think your child will need - they don't sell children's Tylenol etc on the ship and going to ship Doctor is going to be $$$$. Bring some cheap sand toys and bucket bc the mark-up on the ship or in port is outrageous!

If you're going to be swimming, consider swim goggles. My son hates the salt water.

And yes, we have taken a potty seat. And a car seat depending on your port plans.

Disposable seat covers can't be tossed into a ship's toilet after use. In many ports ALL paper needs to be tossed into the trash, not down the toilet.

Thx Sadie! I always wondered why there are no seat covers in the bathrooms.

IIRC HAL has seat covers. They must be special for ship's plumbing because I didn't see any signs to the contrary.

It's never made sense to me. Make sure you use hand sanitizer but.."NO SEAT COVERS FOR YOU!"..It grosses me out!

It's either make a seat with TP or learn to hover on high seas ;). Of course, there's always the cabin.

How many layers of toilet paper does it take to soak up all the pee on a cruise ship toilet seat? 1,2,3,uh 4 ..Reminds me of that Tootsie Roll Lollipop commercial.

Note to self: Must master "hover method" or get cabin close to the casino
