Cabansail Posted November 4, 2015 #1 Share Posted November 4, 2015 I did some adjustments to my booking. They needed an email address to send the confirmation. I gave them my normal email address, the one linked to my account from when I booked and have done everything with so far. It was not acceptable. I was told that RCI cannot send to Hotmail addresses can I supply another. I did spell out my very long work email address but it did not arrive. Why can they suddenly not use Hotmail? Why do you get a different story each time you make an inquiry?

Perhaps the two situations are related?

wayne_trisha Posted November 4, 2015 #6 Share Posted November 4, 2015 While most family around me gets their latest BS "sale" in my Hotmail account, I never receive any promotions from them and unless I call and specifically for something emailed to me, it just does not show up. Oddly my "sale" email come to my gmail account though I have gone through every preference setting selecting hotmail. It is weird!
EpcotBill Posted November 4, 2015 #7 Share Posted November 4, 2015 I use Hotmail and I get all kinds of email from Royal all the time. I use that email on all my reservations with no problem, most recently in September.
dreamer976 Posted November 4, 2015 #8 Share Posted November 4, 2015 (edited) I've had the same problem for a few years now, but with my aol.com address. I always get my original cruise booking emails, as well as any other emails that change the original reservation, i.e. changing staterooms, price reductions, etc. When booking excursions, specialty restaurants, I do not get those delivered. I've been on the telephone with an agent when they try to resend them, but to no avail. Finally had someone with RCI explain that for some reason their emails to an aol.com address don't make it out of their system and that their IT dept. can't figure it out. Anything to do with their IT dept. does not shock me at all anymore. Funny, though, that for years I never failed to receive their promotional emails . . . until I unsubscribed from them. I am always asked by them to supply them with a different email address, which I refuse to do. I do have others, but it's the principle of the matter that they can't fix their computer system; my local old fashioned grocery store down the street has a much better website and they don't have the $$$ to take care of their system that RCI does. Whew! RANT OVER, but yes, I do feel better. Edited November 4, 2015 by dreamer976

Thoie Posted November 4, 2015 #10 Share Posted November 4, 2015 There could be a few things. 1. Hotmail is technically decommissioned by Microsoft. Everyone was supposed to switch their accounts to Outlook.com a year or so ago 2 From experience they may find that Hotmail spam filters rccl mails, and they're trying to avoid repeat phone calls, but haven't explained it to their agents
LilBlackDress Posted November 4, 2015 #11 Share Posted November 4, 2015 I remember several years ago Hotmail had a security issue. Their system had all kinds of bugs and spam issues. By the time it had cleared, the tech school I had attended switched to gmail, so I did too!

Even though it's Outlook now, .hotmail addresses still work fine and always will I would hope people are smart enough to watch their spam folder once in awhile. Clipper123 Posted November 4, 2015 #13 Share Posted November 4, 2015 I get emails all the time from RCI to my Hotmail account. For the past two days at work (a large medical facility) all emails we send through our network are being returned undeliverable to all Hotmail addresses. I also noticed yesterday when I initially logged into my Hotmail acc't it had switched over to outlook but when I logged back in last night it was back to the old Hotmail platform. Maybe this is a Hotmail/Microsoft issue that is affecting different servers/networks???

TheTruthCanHurt Posted November 4, 2015 #16 Share Posted November 4, 2015 Its very true that Royal emails are hit and miss. I used to get all of them, then I would only get my confirmations from club royale, lately I get none of them. I had a long talk with a supervisor at club royale the other day. He said they are in the process of switiching from lotus works emails to outlook. and they are hoping that will solve some of the email problems. I have an earthlink address and other with aol report similiar issues. It's also no suprise as the website always has issues that they mail server could also be plagued by the same IT people. To say that hotmail has worked and will always work and to blame it on a spam setting is just ludicrous. There are all kinds of filters email companies use and from time to time, anything could trigger someone not getting emails. But it is inconvenient when you miss important emails. The RCCL guy emailed me from a different account on his end and I got my email right away.
Setting sail for fun Posted November 4, 2015 #17 Share Posted November 4, 2015 The only emails I get from Royal are the survey at the end of the cruise! I have filled in my email address many times to receive the promotional information and never receive anything. We have a Comcast account. Our reservations are through a TA. bigque Posted November 4, 2015 #18 Share Posted November 4, 2015 My wife's Hotmail email account was working fine until a week ago. She didn't know what the problem was but found an email from Hotmail from back in July for customers to acknowledge that changes were to be made but she never did. Just yesterday she googled how to fix and had to go into her settings and change the incoming server settings. Once she did that all the emails she had not been receiving came through!

mlmc424 Posted November 4, 2015 #20 Share Posted November 4, 2015 I manage to get all of the marketing emails from RCI to my hotmail address but don't ever seem to get confirmations of shore excursions or drink packages. As long as I can see those on my cruise planner then I don't worry about that.
TheTruthCanHurt Posted November 4, 2015 #21 Share Posted November 4, 2015 If Royal Caribbean cannot send email to Hotmail, then how do you explain this email dated November 2, 2015??? it's a strangely inconsistent thing. some people get them, some dont. Some get them sometimes. some not at all. RCCL email has been an issue for years and years. NO one is saying that some dont get them. they are merely saying THEY dont get them. AOL can refuse to accept email from RCI servers, so you may be blaming the wrong entity. Not being able to email to aol isn't surprising, it used to be quite common that aol would stop accepting email from other large providers. (AOL states on their site that it can take them up to a week to start accepting mail from the blocked provider again.) There are so few AOL users now that's it just less and less of an issue. I'm not going to stand up for them. If you feel they have a terrible website I encourage you to tell them about it, but be specific. They can't fix vague claims of 'terrible.' Tell them what you want it to do that it doesn't do, or tell them what specifically doesn't work properly. I've seen a lot of folks here complain about how they don't like the website, but I'd bet precious few have directly told royal about it. In the absence of direct customer feedback, the website design and function is going to be driven by sales/marketing and technology changes. I've seen a lot of folks here complain about how they don't like the website, but I'd bet precious few have directly told royal about it. In the absence of direct customer feedback, the website design and function is going to be driven by sales/marketing and technology changes. Hi, I actually have told them. Gave them very specific notes. Even helped them fix two major issues 1. the inability to change catagories inside a booking (the button did nothing) It took me three emails to explain it to them.. and after six months they fixed it. I have no problem communicating directly with them. There are many things they do a great job at. And guess what. I tell them that too. I agree many people on here just gripe. HOWEVER. clearly many people have issues with the website, it's noted all over the place. But I speak from my own experience. Frequently the website does not work. 1. cant log in 2. reservations dissapear 3. price shown is not the price booked I also am part of a large group of people that dont get emails. I LOVE RCCL it is my prefered cruise line, and I do hope that they get someone in the IT department that can fix the website. In many cases I have more luck using outsite (resellers) website to check the inventory because it works better. So, in closing. Since There are so many problems on an ongoing basis with the website. Including two weeks ago a known bug (from club royal) when you log into your my cruises, and then search for a cruise, it deletes part of your payment on your cruise vacation, which in effect caused my sailing to get cancelled. Fortunately club royal is so good to me, that they caught it ( because it is a known IT problem) and they fixed it. so it's not a big stretch to believe that my email problems are related to the same poorly designed website. THIS IS MY EXPERIENCE. NOT MY OPINION. SOME PEOPLE ON HERE TAKE A GUESS AT THINGS OR SHARE THEIR OPINIONS NOT BASED ON ACTUAL EXPERIENCE. THIS HOWEVER IS MY EXPERIENCE..... :) oddly enough the only email I get is when I email them to discuss issues I am having with email or the website. "Thank you for contacting us. This is an automated confirmation that your email has been received. Our hosts will reply to your inquiry in the order in which it was received. Please reply only if you need to provide additional information related to your original email. Follow-up emails regarding the status of your query may further delay your response." We appreciate your patience and understanding as we work to service your One more thing thats worth noting. Specifically with the emails problems. ON the Casino page. many people post the offers they receive from club royale, so that the others that dont get emails can actually see what the current offers are. It would be a great thing if people shared some of the standard cruise offers as well. Edited November 4, 2015 by TheTruthCanHurt
