chrislo Posted November 19, 2015 #1 Share Posted November 19, 2015 Does anyone know if you can access and watch things from You Tube using the new Internet packages. I thought I read you couldn't access streaming sites like Netflix but I wasnt sure about You Tube.
Rare Honolulu Blue Posted November 19, 2015 #2 Share Posted November 19, 2015 From Carnival: All plans exclude video streaming (such as Netflix or Hulu) Since YouTube offers little but video for streaming, I would say streaming from there would not be allowed. But I'm not absolutely certain of it.
Rare crewsweeper Posted November 19, 2015 #3 Share Posted November 19, 2015 Somebody really needs to opine on the speed and efficiency of the new service, otherwise, you'll be wasting your $$$$ waiting 15minutes for a 30 second You Tube to buffer. Schoifmom Posted November 19, 2015 #4 Share Posted November 19, 2015 As I understand it (not experienced it), you would need the premium internet package for streaming services like YouTube.
Canadian_J Posted November 19, 2015 #5 Share Posted November 19, 2015 Just off of a cruise where I purchased the Premium internet package and I can confirm that YouTube is not included. This falls under the "streaming" services a previous poster mentioned, and is therefore blocked. Streaming music (Spotify, Songza) worked just fine, but as mentioned in the package details there were no streaming video services (YouTube, Netflix, etc). Therefore, the only way to get YouTube on a cruise is by using your actual data. You'll be paying dearly for it though :P
taymiss2 Posted November 19, 2015 #6 Share Posted November 19, 2015 So no logging on to watch a football or basketball game? Hubby is not going to be pleased as I told him that shouldn't be a problem any more.
SadieN Posted November 19, 2015 #7 Share Posted November 19, 2015 It's amazing how many GB video streaming eats.
AdrenalineRush Posted November 19, 2015 #8 Share Posted November 19, 2015 You could sign up for one month free trial of YouTube Red, which allows offline viewing of downloaded videos.

Here's hoping the sports bar on your ship has a good variety available!

Lil2Angelic Posted November 20, 2015 #13 Share Posted November 20, 2015 I would think the Sports Bar would have a good variety of games playing, plus whatever is on the t.v. in your cabin. I believe they also show games in the casino, especially play off games. They also had a special screening for a NFL playoff game in one of the venues on the ship on our January cruise. theriac Posted November 20, 2015 #17 Share Posted November 20, 2015 Thoughts... would they be able to block it if you are using a VPN? would they be able to block it if you are using an App to watch video content? do they block Kodi (XBMC)? With a VPN they shouldn't be able to block it but you never know. Possibly, second question goes hand and hand with the first and they are both contingent on each other. I have no idea. klfrodo Posted November 20, 2015 #18 Share Posted November 20, 2015 Problem with VPN is that it slows transmission and receive speed even more than what it already is. If I'm sitting in a hotel that is capped at 3Mbps and log in using my VPN,, I'm less than 1Mbps and might even be so slow as unable to connect. If I'm sitting at home with 25 or 30 Mbps,,, once I log into VPN, I'm down to under 5Mbps
KiwiFunCruiser Posted November 21, 2015 #19 Share Posted November 21, 2015 Streaming will cost a fortune due to the buffering.
taymiss2 Posted November 21, 2015 #20 Share Posted November 21, 2015 Is there a sports bar on the Breeze? I thought I read that there isn't If there is then no problem. We have cruised three times during March madness and only on the NCL spirit were we able to watch the games.

We have cruised three times during March madness and only on the NCL spirit were we able to watch the games. There are a bank of TVs at the Casino Bar. In October, we asked them to change to FOX to watch a KC Royals playoff game. They obliged and changed about 1/2 of them to baseball. There was no "official" sports bar that I ever saw. theriac Posted November 23, 2015 #23 Share Posted November 23, 2015 Does anybody know if I can check on my fantasy football team on the social plan? Not on the value plan. You should be able to though if you get the next tier up plan where you can check email and browse the web.
