On Which Cruise Did you Get an Upsell?

Another thread about someone getting an up sell got me curious.

People are always speculating why and how some get a call and others don't.

Is it the casino, region, age, past guest, $$$ ?????

In that thread several people reported they got a call on their 4th cruise, including the OP.

I've been called only once and it was about our 10th cruise. However after reading that thread I realized that though it was our 10th cruise overall, it was in fact our 4th on Carnival.

Curious if 4 cruises is the magic number?

15 cruises with Carnival and finally got an upsell email from inside lido deck to oceanview for $30 more. Did not take it, b2b and wanted to keep the same room. :rolleyes:I think they knew that lol.

Anyway, took 15 cruises. That kinda takes 4 as the magic number out of the equation.

Mine was on my very first cruise, going from an inside cabin to an ocean view.

I think it has much less to do with the passengers than the cabin itself. In my case I'd carefully chosen a well placed inside room, and my bet is that insides were in high demand for my sailing, and I was upgraded to an ocean view, which were sort of overpriced for that sailing IMHO. I was given the upgrade for a mere $30 total, and I'm sure they rebooked my old room very quickly.

When I first turned platinum, turned the offer down. Next cruise got an offer for a suite that was 1/2 of the first offer so I took it. Next two cruises no offers because I think those cruises were booked through a TA not Carnival direct. Next two cruises 1 is through agent and 1 is booked direct so we will see if there are any offers.

My SO is Platinum. In May 2015, we received an upsell call three days before sailing on the Victory to move from an interior to a corner aft balcony for less than $300 (which included an increased cost of insurance due to the higher cost of the cruise). I was told that the offer was strictly for "Platinums sailing in insides".

I'm going to answer before I read any of the replies- we received an upsell call for our first cruise to move from a mid-ship balcony to an extended balcony (IIRC). The guy tried to make it sound like we'd be saving tons but it was only $20 less than it would have been had we booked that cabin to begin with, so we passed. I think it probably has more to do with how well the ship is selling and how many of each cabin is selling.

I have got two upsell calls. Our 5th cruise when we were in an Interior, they tried to upgrade us to balcony for $400.

i also got an upsell call 2 days ago for our upcoming cruise (8th cruise) on December 6th. They were moving us from Main Deck (2) Ocean View, to Balcony for $200. Didn't take it. I don't think that there is any rhyme or reason for it. Honestly, I think this time that they sold too many 'guarantee' cabins and didn't want to give too many free upgrades. We booked a 'guarantee interior' and ended up with a free upgrade to an OV because they didn't have enough interiors. So, i'm assuming they didn't want to put too many people upgrading, and didn't want to upgrade people all the way to balcony. We are sailing at full capacity and have been full capacity since the beginning of November.

We have been on 13 Carnival cruises and have received 4 different upsell calls our emails. The last one was in Feb. 2015 on the Glory. Was booked in on OV and offered a balcony on Spa Deck for $110 more. We took it.

Hoping for another call for our Feb. Liberty cruise.

On my 4th CCL cruise I got an upset call to go from an inside to balcony for $100 total for both of us.

On my 6th cruise I got an upsell email. I had a balcony guarantee and for $40 total we got to move to an extended balcony on deck 7 of the pride. I tried to check the upgrade online with no luck so I called and my PVP helped us upgrade.

Just got my first Upsell call a couple days ago for my cruise next month. I had booked 5 of us in an Ocean View room on the Empress deck on the Elation. It was $625 total to upgrade to the Grand Suite. We took it. We've been on the Elation before and know it's tight with that many people in a regular room. We are looking forward to the extra room and balcony. :)

Received an upsell from an 8A to an 8F for $40.00 for our cruise in two days. We took it. Took us from a deck 6 cabin in the aft section of the ship (above the lounge) to a spa deck. Why not? Try something different. Just received an upsell today for our flight tomorrow too. Upgraded to first class for $40.00. Took that too.

Our first upsell call was on our 10th (Platinum) cruise in 2009 - Carnival Miracle, 8-day NYC-Eastern Caribbean. We had booked two connecting balconies for DH, two of our sons, and me. The upsell was to move to two adjoining (not connecting) ocean suites for $500. We took it - it was an extra $125 pp for bigger cabins and balconies, and since we could open the balcony divider we still really had the connecting cabins.

We got a call on our 4th cruise on the Breeze. They wanted $600 to upgrade from an ocean view to a balcony. We did not bite as we thought it was too much. They called us 4 times, though, so they really wanted our ocean view (for 4 people) really bad. Haven't gotten a call since. :(

My upcoming cruise is my 5th and I was offered an upsell but mine came in the form of an email. The offer came about 2 weeks after we made our final payment and was for $60 we could go from our Deck 6 balcony to deck 9, 10, or 11. Something about the email made me want to check the price of the cruise. I discovered the rate for the category cabin I booked went down $240 from what I paid. I decided to pass on the upsell and take the $240 OBC. I booked early saver for the first time and it actually worked in my favor. :D

I wonder why they didn't come in with a better offer? We had one cruise on Conquest where we had booked the cruise specifically for the cabin - we wanted an aft wrap and Conquest had one available. We booked the aft balcony next door for our sons. Two days before the cruise, they called with an upsell offer - move both us and sons to a grand suite for (at least) $500 more - I can't remember the exact figure. Since we booked the cruise for the cabin, we turned down the offer. A few hours later they called back with a new offer - if we moved to the grand suite, they would give us our sons' cruise fares as on board credit. Despite wanting that aft wrap, this deal was too good to turn down.:)

We're booked for a New Years Eve cruise on the Paradise and we're taking 3 of our grand daughters. We had an OV room with a pullman. We got the call this week from the upsell fairy and they offered us a Grand Suite for $500.00 TOTAL. We grabbed it, lots more room, balcony and a bathtub for the little ones.

Happy Cruising!
