poutanen Posted December 22, 2015 #3 Share Posted December 22, 2015 It's been that way the last several years as far as I know. If you choose MTD you must pre-pay gratuities. With set dining you paid at the end of the cruise.
Merion_Mom Posted December 22, 2015 #4 Share Posted December 22, 2015 No, you do NOT have to pre-pay gratuities on any ship on RC, including Empress. It is a mistake/glitch. (surprise, surprise) Just call up and have them removed. 800-526-9723
JulieRose Posted December 22, 2015 #5 Share Posted December 22, 2015 Seems like a hassle to have to tip every night though. Personally, I would just leave it but that's me.

You don't have to tip every day, they will just charge then to your sea pass account.

He didn't say he wasn't going to pay his gratuities and/or pay them each night, merely that he didn't want to pre-pay them. Some people prefer to pay on board because they have some on board credit which can certainly go toward grats. :)

snow1 Posted December 24, 2015 #21 Share Posted December 24, 2015 (edited) When they changed the automatic prepaid gratuities for MTD we had them removed from our reservation. We plan to use OBC to pay our gratuities. Edited December 24, 2015 by snow1

Interesting thing when I just went online to "book" a cruise, it asked what dining type I wanted, and then pre-paid gratuities was an option. Maybe the policy has changed since I booked my last cruise, and they haven't updated all parts of their site? Wouldn't surprise me...
