Miami airport/hotel/back to airport after cruise

We will be flying into Miami the night before our cruise ....any suggestions on hotels to stay at? Fairly late night flight so really all we need is a place to sleep. Two families - one is a family of 5 and one a family of 4. We also will need transportation to the cruise ship the next morning

On the way home we will be leaving the cruise and heading right to the airport for an afternoon flight. Should we depend on taxis or schedule a shuttle service ahead of time?

Have cruised a few times before but never out of Miami ... thanks!!

In addition to the above suggestions I would look at hotels in the Blue Lagoon area near the MIA airport - nicer area than those surrounding the above hotels, with a shopping center nearby (across the street from the Hampton Inn) with dining and shopping options.

I would second the suggestion of the Blue Lagoon area.

 

Much of the area around MIA is just horrible and I try to get people to avoid it at all costs.

 

Stories of guests getting mugged trying to get inside the hotel aren't uncommon.

You can also have a look at the Miami airport Marriott. It's called the Marriott campus. They have a Marriott, a Courtyard Marriott and a Residence Inn all in One location. Decent Restaurants and a Starbucks on site. They have free airport shuttles running every 20 minutes.

They can arrange transport for you to the port or there are Taxis always waiting on site.
