cruiser boo Posted January 3, 2016 #1 Share Posted January 3, 2016 Stupid Question: Can we bring & use a very small night light (4 watt-125 volt) to plug in the bathroom shaver outlet on the Emerald? thanks
JuneauWhatIMean Posted January 3, 2016 #2 Share Posted January 3, 2016 I'm not sure. I always thought nothing really worked in the shaver plug. (?) I always bring a few battery operated tealights. They really add a nice ambiance. I put one or two on the bathroom counter and sometimes one on the floor near my slippers.
truckmaker Posted January 3, 2016 #3 Share Posted January 3, 2016 You might consider taking a combination night / emergency light. We travel with one and it sure comes in handy during a power failure. It is quite dark in an inside cabin when this happens.
stoneharborlady Posted January 3, 2016 #4 Share Posted January 3, 2016 (edited) I brought a flat plug in night light that emitted a low blue light, in the bathroom. Worked fine. It was one I purchased in Bed Bath and Beyond. Edited January 3, 2016 by stoneharborlady

princess-mommy Posted January 3, 2016 #9 Share Posted January 3, 2016 Isn't the outlet in the bathroom a European outlet?
OCruisers Posted January 3, 2016 #10 Share Posted January 3, 2016 We cut the light on the bathroom and leave the door cracked a bit. Works great for us and one less thing to pack. :) LuLu
Colo Cruiser Posted January 3, 2016 #11 Share Posted January 3, 2016 (edited) Isn't the outlet in the bathroom a European outlet? No its a 2 prong us but wired/labeled for low voltage shavers only. We sometimes plug our toothbrush charger in there too. Only one outlet though. Edited January 3, 2016 by Colo Cruiser

Astro Flyer Posted January 3, 2016 #13 Share Posted January 3, 2016 (edited) I brought a flat plug in night light that emitted a low blue light, in the bathroom. Worked fine. It was one I purchased in Bed Bath and Beyond. We use that type of glowing night light at the desk's socket but hesitated to try it in the bathroom's shaver socket...good to know that it also works there...thanks. :) Edited January 3, 2016 by Astro Flyer
Shogun Posted January 3, 2016 #14 Share Posted January 3, 2016 Hi All Would thought enough light coming in under cabin door and the small emergency light at the bed would give enough light to move around cabin, but like others have said leave the bathroom light on and close the door. yours Shogun
decamp303 Posted January 3, 2016 #15 Share Posted January 3, 2016 Both DW and I keep our cell phones handy on the nightstand and use the glow of the screen or flashlight as needed.
Viv0828 Posted January 3, 2016 #16 Share Posted January 3, 2016 (edited) On our last 2 cruises we were able to use the shaver outlet for a small nightlight. On several previous cruises, the shaver outlet only worked when the bathroom light was on defeating the whole purpose. I don't know if that outlet now works on all ships when the bathroom light is out?? Edited January 3, 2016 by Viv0828
MGAfhc Posted January 3, 2016 #17 Share Posted January 3, 2016 No its a 2 prong us but wired/labeled for low voltage shavers only.We sometimes plug our toothbrush charger in there too. Only one outlet though. Shaver outlets have isolating transformers not voltage reduction transformers and are intended to reduce shock hazard around plumbing. They are low amperage not low voltage and therefore can accept any 110v device that does not draw much power.
satxdiver Posted January 3, 2016 #18 Share Posted January 3, 2016 The bathroom "shaver" outlet has only two prongs so no ground prong. The outlet will accept either two flat prongs (US) or two round prongs (Europe) where only one can be used at a time. It is however a low current rated outlet and will trip if you try to pull too much current. Night lights are certainly in the very low current category and will work. We use the outlet solely to keep our toothbrushes charged.

floridalover5623 Posted January 4, 2016 #22 Share Posted January 4, 2016 Actually it can be used for just about any low draw electrical items like cell phone, tablets, cameras. etc.

jsiegel Posted January 4, 2016 #24 Share Posted January 4, 2016 I've used an old style (real filament night light bulb) on both the Star and Caribbean Princess. Worked fine. Especially helpful when one or the other of us has to get up in the middle of the night to use the bathroom and even a flashlight would disturb the one still sleeping. Gives off a soft glow without too much light. We also use it in our RV.
