slot pulls and sail n sign cards

I know I am going to be very disliked for this but when you meet a large group for a slot pull and everyone puts in a fair amount of money who's card or any card at that should be in the machine? If you get 20-25 people with entry fee of $20. that's a nice chunk to go towards free drink card and casino credit which can get you free cruises! Sorry my vote is no card in the machine at all.

It's a lot of work setting up a slot pull. No problem with points going to the coordinator. If you don't like it, don't participate. I've participated in, but never arranged one.

Whoever sets up the pull and runs it, should get the points. I think that is only fair. Bases is correct. It is a lot to keep track of.

I agree with the others. I will be participating in a pull the end of the month and there is no way I could have organized it all but so happy to be able to do this event. I loose nothing by having the organizer who has arranged and planned and thought much more about this tthan I have and very happy to let them acrue points and will even buy them a drink.

The person who organized the slot pull should get his or her card put in the machine.

A) The person who organized the slot pull puts in their card. Simple enough. You want to use your card then organize the slot pull.

 

B) You aren't earning that many points. It is 1 points for every $3 or so that goes through the machine. The way you earn a lot of points is winning and playing money back and winning and playing it back and so forth. A slot pull does not allow that. Each person gets X amount of pulls, period. So let's say each person puts in $25 and you have 10 people doing it. That's $250 through the machine no matter what you hit because you stop at the end and split the winnings. That's less than 30 points when all is said and done. Better than nothing but it certainly isn't worth refusing to enter a slot pull over.

the last one we entered there were 98 people that joined in at $30. each. total of $2940. we won back about $6.00 each. There happened to be about 5 other people who helped organize the slot pull but only one persons card was used. It didn't take much for them to get the free drinks and that special envelope in their cabin on the last night.

Sorry to be this way but I still don't think just one persons card should be used. I do appreciate them sending out the e-mail inviting us all to join in the slot pull and inserting all the money and their card and then when we are all done divide winnings by x amount of people and there's your winnings.

I can't even imagine one with 98 people, sounds like a total cluster and a lot of work to organize. Most I've seen is 30 people. Anyhow, I've organized a few, secured prizes from the cruise line and brought my own too. I also take myself to the bank and get 100s of dollars worth of change so I can do an instant pay out at the end. I keep a spreadsheet to track everybody's buy in, payouts, winning amounts, and act as all around sheep hearder/cheerleader. I let it be known up front that it will be my card going in.

 

Do you realize how much extra work goes into doing one of these? And as another poster said, the points gained are usually minimal.

Also, on the off chance of a big win, that person will be responsible for the taxes. I joined a pull that had a agreement of terms and one of the points listed was "in the event of a taxable win ($1200 or over) a percentage of 25% will go to the organizer to off set the winnings for tax purposes."

One time I received more back from a slot pull than I put in. I received $21 for a $15 pay in. We have 20 cruises completed and have participated in a slot pull on most of them. Usually, the payout is about 60% of what you pay to join in.

 

I'm fine with the organizer using their card in the slot machine. Think about this--what if there's a BIG win, maybe thousands. It's what we hope for right? Who pays the tax on the winnings? The guy who's card is in the machine? Who is legally the winner? It could get messy, just sayn'.

Yes! We have won (big?) one time , and also broke even or a little to the good, several times.:)

 

I have organized (or helped) with 3- 4 Slot Pulls. The most successful, were usually the ones with 12-20 people. The larger ones, and even though it is not on topic, the larger cabin crawls, M&G's etc, are usually a lot more work as well for everyone organizing or helping. They are though, all always fun, a bit different, and a great way to meet new friends on a cruise!:)

 

Anyway, back on topic.

 

The card thing? Well, the organizer does/should get the priority, but we have found that after the first/sec round (sometimes), the highest $$ won on a spin, gets to insert their card. The original card holder, cashes out at the cage first. Although a bit cumbersome, this method makes sure the overall "card winner" is a random event. ;)

 

As for our "big" win, I think we had about 10-12 people, I hit a Diamond-Diamond - 7, on the Wheel of Fortune machine....on maybe the second round of spins. :confused: IIRC, that spin won $760, the next person won $125 or 150? We decided to cash out, each person got ~$90, having only paid in $20.

 

Bottom line, Slot Pulls are for FUN! But sometimes you win ( a little ).:)

I agree that the coordinator use their card. I have been in 4 slot pulls and broke even once and got from $2 to $6 above what I put in on the others. There have been between 15 and 49 participants.

I think I've participated in three; never got back as much as I put in.

 

We did not use anyone's card! We loaded the cash, did the pulls, and then put someone's card in to upload the remaining funds. That person then went to the window and immediately cashed out that exact amount and distributed cash to everyone.

 

Yes, a large slot pull takes some work, but no one should get free drinks and a shot at a free bounce-back offer off other people's play. If there is an odd dollar amt, the few extra bucks goes to the organizer. That's all.

 

What about if someone pulls and hits a big win? Shouldn't that person get the credit?

 

No! It's a group thing and no one in the group should get anything more than anyone else.

I did not realize that on a cruise ship in international waters, they make you fill out a W2 for US Taxes. What happens if the person is not from the US. Does Carnival report the earnings to what ever country they are from? I assumed that since in international waters there would not be a tax form to be submitted from the ship.

I agree, I am not a gambler, nor a drinker but would participate in slot pull for fun and to meet people. Wouldn't matter to me whose card was in it, why let those points go to waste?

US citizens owe tax no matter where the money is earned. Big problem within the expat community is the cost of professional help filling out the forms.

You know going in, if you don't like it, don't participate. Play on your own with your own card. I find this a funny sentiment, no one should benefit, etc. it's supposed to be social and fun, if free alcohol is that important to you, just participate in your own
