boatfun58 Posted January 7, 2016 #1 Share Posted January 7, 2016 Want to try Norwegian Cruise line but want to be sure the sauna/steam room is same-sex only. My idea of a great sauna is NOT wearing swimwear. It's just not the same and would not consider going on a ship that has co-ed sauna. Thank you! SPacificbound Posted January 7, 2016 #2 Share Posted January 7, 2016 It would be best to ask on the NCL portion of CC.
BlueRiband Posted January 7, 2016 #3 Share Posted January 7, 2016 Welcome to Cruise Critic boatfun58. As suggested you might find if specific NCL ships have same gender saunas on the NCL board: http://boards.cruisecritic.com/forumdisplay.php?f=107 If this is a deal breaker for you, your choices will be very limited. Since real estate is precious on a ship most have co-ed, swimsuit required, saunas. Some newer and larger ships may have private facilities that allow one to enjoy a sauna au nautural. Nearly every ship I've been on had same sex facilities-usually located in the locker rooms. OP ask on the NC board or just check out the deck plan of your ship. And of course clothing (or lack thereof) is your preference just as it is on land.
boatfun58 Posted January 7, 2016 Author #7 Share Posted January 7, 2016 Thanks! Maybe I could just ask a travel agent if they could help answer that question.
GUT2407 Posted January 7, 2016 #8 Share Posted January 7, 2016 Thanks! Maybe I could just ask a travel agent if they could help answer that question. I seriously doubt they'd know.
.manu. Posted January 7, 2016 #9 Share Posted January 7, 2016 I was on the Norwegian Epic. They have a separate sauna in the locker room. With a stunning view of the ocean. I do not remember if there was a steam room too. It's always a discussion whether to wear a swimsuit or not. The European have a different view on that topic than the Americans. But I saw both. And only one woman left a bit offended when a man entered the mixed sauna unclothed.
iheartbda Posted January 8, 2016 #10 Share Posted January 8, 2016 Thanks! Maybe I could just ask a travel agent if they could help answer that question. Best bet is still to ask on the NCL board.
SuiteTraveler Posted January 8, 2016 #11 Share Posted January 8, 2016 On NCL, it depends on the ship. The Epic does have a same sex sauna and steam room in the ladies locker room (don't know about the men's.) There are also co-ed facilities as well in another area of the spa. calliopecruiser Posted January 8, 2016 #12 Share Posted January 8, 2016 saunas require swimwear no matter what Good heavens, no. A towel to sit on is sufficient in many places. And it's much nicer without, IMO.

SuiteTraveler Posted January 9, 2016 #16 Share Posted January 9, 2016 Getaway and Breakaway only have co-ed steam and sauna as well. I believe the Gem class ships may have sex segregated steam and sauna, but not 100% certain.
