I don't think the protesters realize what RCI brings to their economy...probably because the leaders of Haiti are crooks and nothing goes to the citizens of this country. It's a shame. Could be hopefully better nowadays. We also had someone refuse to give me back my camera after he snapped a pic of us on the jetski and wanted money in return. The vendors have been separated off the path so they can't haggle with you unless you go to their market.
