Rare bronzey214 Posted February 7, 2016 Author #27 Share Posted February 7, 2016 Day 2: Great Stirrup Cay So, after our late night, I was up around a half hour before sunrise to try to get some photos. The "port" at GSC We went up to the buffet for breakfast (we ate at the buffet for breakfast every day except disembarkation day) and come back to change for the day when I see the tender boats start making their way to the Getaway. This is the first tender port I've ever been to. We made our way to deck 4 and board the tender boat for GSC. Sidenotes I took a total of three different cameras on this trip. HTC RE (for underwater photos) Canon 70D (for long zoom photos) Sony RX100 IV (for general photos) If anyone is interested in which photos are taken with which camera, I can let you know. Also - I took GPS tracks of most of our shore excursions and while the ship was in motion.
Rare bronzey214 Posted February 7, 2016 Author #28 Share Posted February 7, 2016 Another sidenote - the day we left Miami, it was unseasonably cold. High of 61 and a low in the morning in the mid-40s. Unfortunately, this means the water temperature was a bit chilly. We were signed up for the "Fate of the Fancy" shore excursion. I was looking forward to it since I've never snorkeled before. This would give me a few hours to try to snorkel without being on the clock in another shore excursion. We made our way to the snorkel rental building. When we got there, the woman said that she suggested testing the water before accepting the equipment since the water was a bit cold. She said that if we didn't take the shore excursion, we'd get a full refund and be able to use our $75/port credit for another port. We walked over to the water and she was right - it was chilly. We decided to not snorkel and thanked her for letting us know. At this point, the island is still almost completely empty - they had started tendering early, so it's still only 9 AM or so. We walked away from the main beach in search of a somewhat less clustered place. On our way, we took our picture with the Getaway... and checked out the "straw market" - they were still setting up and we didn't see anything we liked. Rare bronzey214 Posted February 7, 2016 Author #29 Share Posted February 7, 2016 We ended up finding some chairs away from the main beach, past the meal area on a rockier but quiet area. I eased into the water. We were wearing water shoes. For this area, you need them. There are rocks on the bottom and they are very slippery. The water is still cool, so I didn't go in more than my waist. After about an hour or two, I'm beached out so we decide to go back to the ship, shower and get lunch. When we get back, we realized my watch was an hour fast! It was just now 11 AM and the buffet doesn't serve lunch until 11:30 AM.

KMB2014 Posted February 12, 2016 #31 Share Posted February 12, 2016 I'm really enjoying your review and photos! Thank you!!! You wouldn't by any chance have dailies from your trip? I'll be on the Getaway on March 20 and I'm starting to make dinner reservations. I want to make sure that I don't miss any great shows!
Sand and Seas Posted February 12, 2016 #32 Share Posted February 12, 2016 Just to note: We sailed in a large balcony room but we were comped a balcony room through my play with Casinos at Sea last year. We upgraded to the large balcony since we were not planning on getting Vibe again and wanted somewhere peaceful to lay. Our stateroom was 9724. We love the Getaway too! We also usually sail through CAS with a balcony comp. Can you tell us how much it is per person to upgrade to the Large Balcony? Sounds like an interesting option. Can't wait to see more of your wonderful photos!
FloridaGram Posted February 12, 2016 #33 Share Posted February 12, 2016 Signing on because I am considering the Getaway next fall. Have you been on other cruise lines? I have heard the Getaway cabins are too small compared to older ships. We would most likely not have your large balcony since we don't get casino comps. Did you talk to anyone that had a smaller cabin? I figure we won't be in the cabin much so it really does not matter but I talked to a lady last year on the Getaway while I was on Carnival and she did not like the small room she had. (We were enjoying Magens Bay at the same time)

leumas Posted February 15, 2016 #36 Share Posted February 15, 2016 Signing on as we sail March 20. We've never been above the jewel class. Wife has done Oasis and we both did Regal princess and crowds weren't to bad. Curious to see how Getaway will be.
kenlyn Posted February 15, 2016 #37 Share Posted February 15, 2016 We were on the same sailing as you! In fact just a few cabins down in 9734, also a large balcony. We had Frank as our steward too. Funny about the balcony being so large but crammed with so much furniture you couldn't move out there. We asked about removing the chairs but it never happened and we gave up and just dealt with it. It was a tremendous cruise and we are going again on her next January. Looking forward to the rest of your review.
