glolily71 Posted February 9, 2016 #1 Share Posted February 9, 2016 (edited) hi I'm new to this. We're booked on Ms Magellan in March 12th this year going to canaries and Madeira. My first time cruising. How should my other half dress for a gala night . He doesn't care much for suits but wants to look smart. Any tips please? cb at sea Posted February 9, 2016 #2 Share Posted February 9, 2016 Well, "Gala" night took the place of "formal" night...so you will see some suits...maybe a tux or two! In reality, as long as he's wearing long pants and a collared shirt...it's fine.
Rare Essiesmom Posted February 9, 2016 #3 Share Posted February 9, 2016 You might go to the Other Cruise lines forum here at CC, under Cruise Lines A-O. Cruise and Maritime doesn't have a separate forum here...But I suspect you could find information about it on the website for Cruise & Maritime...EM
Rare John Bull Posted February 9, 2016 #4 Share Posted February 9, 2016 C&M is very traditional, folk are expected to dress accordingly on formal nights. Mebbe 75% to 80% of gents will be in tux, the rest in dark suit and collar & tie, plus a few blazers, mebbe a dress uniform and a kilt or two. Krazy Kruizers Posted February 9, 2016 #5 Share Posted February 9, 2016 Welcome to Cruise Critic. You will find that Gala Nights on certain cruise lines -- like the one you are sailing on -- are more formal than other lines. You can always rent a Tuxedo for your cruise. Rare Scrapnana Posted February 10, 2016 #6 Share Posted February 10, 2016 hi I'm new to this. We're booked on Ms Magellan in March 12th this year going to canaries and Madeira. My first time cruising. How should my other half dress for a gala night . He doesn't care much for suits but wants to look smart. Any tips please? This is a quote from their website. "Generally there are two ‘formal’ or gala nights planned on each cruise when many gentlemen wear a dinner jacket, although a lounge suit is quite acceptable."
