Drill2dk Posted February 10, 2016 #426 Share Posted February 10, 2016 My family was on anthem of the seas, this past week. I think royal needs to be more aware of passengers safety and avoiding storms. I think the only way for royal to hear us, is if all disgruntled passengers, boycott RCL until changes are made, such as the captain being fired. And addressing and making new regulations on how to handle storms. Look i have heard from many of people on board that captain thought he could out run this storm, and storm blew up and they got caught. Many meteorologists have stated this storm was expected. We passenger sneed to demand better safety. It can't alway be big cooperations dictating there bottom line to us. Remember without us, they would have empty ships. I have been loyal to royal for over 15 yrs, but I don't want to see this happen again, new jersey is a new port and they should set up different regulations and more training for there captains. tbill Posted February 10, 2016 #427 Share Posted February 10, 2016 Does your travel agent friend know you are planning on stealing drinks from Royal Caribbean? Please answer this question I am very curious what kind of TA would condone this thieving behavior? I am the one paying for your 'free drinks'!!! OMG! Now you are paying for my free drinks??? How would that be. Explain please. I did not steal anything. What the heck are you even talking about. Stop posting just to hear yourself post. Please answer this question I am very curious what kind of TA would condone this thieving behavior? I am the one paying for your 'free drinks'!!! Maybe it's time to give this a rest? That may have just been an ill-considered remark in an overheated thread, which I believe has been deleted. The name-calling and goading directed at the poster in question is really getting tiresome. Middle school is well behind all of us; can we please leave it there?
CI66774 Posted February 10, 2016 #429 Share Posted February 10, 2016 Their vacation is ruined because the captain and/or RCCL Corporate sailed them right into the middle of hurricane force winds. Don't worry about my cruise. They are incompetent and RCCL won't let you cancel or switch without losing money. We inquired, but that really is none of your business. Your posts are consistently rude and unhelpful. It's apparent you're angry and that colors your disrespectful posts. Sorry about your bad experiences but you come off as a very, very bitter poster. Rare little britain Posted February 10, 2016 #430 Share Posted February 10, 2016 They should have went straight to port. Let anyone off who wanted off and then continued back to bayone. It has been rocky the whole way back. They could not go 'straight to port' because [a] this would contravene the Jones Act and it is not like a supermarket car park where you can turn up with a ship with 5000 on board and expect a parking space  I suspect it has been 'rocky the whole way back' because of the second storm that suddenly brewed outside Jacksonville and that the Captain very sensibly turned back from to avoid. Reader0108598 Posted February 10, 2016 #431 Share Posted February 10, 2016 They should have went straight to port. Let anyone off who wanted off and then continued back to bayone. It has been rocky the whole way back. It hasn't been a nice enjoyable cruise back to bayone like some make it sound. Most shows have been cancelled because of the rocking. There is no water in any pools or hot tubs. The indoor pool and solarium has broken windows in the Roof that can't be shut so it's freezing. A lot of activities have not been able to move forward. A lot of pax are sea sick and anxious about not knowing what was really going on. I will say the staff have been great. Amazing to be honest considering they have also been put through the ringer too. I feel angry and happy all at once. Angry that we were forced into a very avoidable situation and how the aftermath was dealt with but happy to have come out of it. Shaun I 'm sorry your return trip is better, hope you will be in your own bed tonight! Reader
nycruise Posted February 10, 2016 #432 Share Posted February 10, 2016 Probably coming in late due to high tide at 4:10PM, can't get under the Verrazano Bridge at high tide.

Ocean Dancer Posted February 10, 2016 #434 Share Posted February 10, 2016 I doubt that it will be in NY harbor by 3pm as Marine Traffic is currently showing Anthem is about 45 nautical miles away and this ship is only doing 6.5 knots. At its current speed it will be likely entering at around 8pm. 6 1/2 knots is very slow, slower than 1/3 of expected. Sounds like more propellsion damage than we are aware of. I hope all passengers and the ship are OK.
RuthlessBoss Posted February 10, 2016 #435 Share Posted February 10, 2016 Oh no honey. We have decided to not buy into RCCL's inflated drink prices. We will be bringing water and soda and wine on board, having drinks in the ports and taking advantage of any free drinks we might get with suite perks/platinum whatever. But thanks for asking. BOOM! So now you've saved a few bucks, but not worth it for the aggravation of carrying it yourself even though you are really saying it to cause another stir:mad:

Rare POA1 Posted February 10, 2016 #437 Share Posted February 10, 2016 But, the decision not to continue to PC was because there was a storm brewing out of Jacksonville which they were concerned might be almost as bad as the one we had just been through and they didn't want to put us through anything like that again. Karina - Thanks for your reports. We really appreciate it. However, there was no storm off Jacksonville. Not in the forecast. Not developing. Not at all. I snapped the East Coast US storm map when someone on the ship posted about the non existent "Jacksonville storm." You guys threaded the needle and followed the nor'easter back up the coast. The screen shot above is from the time when you turned around. The screen shot below is about half a day later. Note the lack of a big storm on the way to Port Canaveral. Langley Cruisers Posted February 10, 2016 #439 Share Posted February 10, 2016 ...new jersey is a new port and they should set up different regulations and more training for there captains. Not a new port - they commenced operation as a cruise ship terminal in May 2004.

I hope all passengers and the ship are OK. That's possible, but it may also be that they're just going at that speed, because it does them no good to arrive at NY Harbor before the pilot is there to meet them. wolfganghowell Posted February 10, 2016 #441 Share Posted February 10, 2016 KARINA, SHAUN, MIOPYK - once again, thank you for keeping us in the loop. We appreciate ALL your experiences. ALL first hand accounts are valid since they are yours. We can agree or disagree but you absolutely OWN your experience. Out of curiosity, if you choose to stay onboard tonight are the bars and lounges open so that you can enjoy yourselves? I am guessing the casino would be closed but hopeful you can have some adult beverages, listen to music and just RELAX.

I inquired on another board and was told to just put luggage tags on the water and soda and they will deliver it right to the cabin. We plan to tip them extra for doing it to. I am told that many people do this without any problem at all. Based on the current situation we also plan to bring granola bars and other things to eat in case we are confined to the cabin for an extended period of time. Exactly. I think it would create more anxiety to be "parked" at the entrance to the harbor bobbing around in the water with home in sight and no way to get there. Besides, the ship will be more stable moving than just floating around waiting for a pilot.

gaylemh Posted February 10, 2016 #449 Share Posted February 10, 2016 There is not much positive in this situation my dear, except for the fact that the captain somehow managed not to kill or seriously hurt anyone I don't see anything other than negative here. You really can't sugar coat that. Actually I have made many life long friends on cruises. Hopefully maybe we can share a meal or a drink on a future cruise (if we ever decide to book another). I would love to have this conversation face to face. I've been seeing pictures and videos of a lot of passengers enjoying the last two days on the ship. Shows, Love and Marriage, Dance Parties, good meals in the restaurants. So yes it wasn't fun and very scary for a day, but it looks like there are a lot of people making the best of it and having a wonderful time on their free shorter cruise. I'm on the same sailing as you, and I hope by the time we board, you leave a lot of your negative feeling at home.
