stpointer Posted February 18, 2016 #1 Share Posted February 18, 2016 We will be tendering in Portofino this October, 7 am - 6 pm. Any suggestions? I have checked this forum but did not find much info for sightseeing originating from here.
Rare Hlitner Posted February 18, 2016 #2 Share Posted February 18, 2016 (edited) Portofino is a very small picturesque village that attracts some rich and famous because it has a decent pier area where they can tie-up their yachts. On one of our visits a few years ago there was a gorgeous chartered white yacht...and the folks aboard included Ava Gabor and Debbie Reynolds. This is typical of this town, which does have more then its share of cute (and very expensive) boutiques mixed with some more typical tourist-oriented shops. You can easily cover every inch of the town in a couple of hours of just walking around. To put the size of community in perspective, the entire population is probably less than 500 souls. If you do not want to spend your port day in Portofino, one possibility is to take a tour to Cinque Terre (the closest village would be about 1 1/2 hours from Portofino). stpointer Posted February 18, 2016 Author #3 Share Posted February 18, 2016 Thanks Hank. I'm guessing I would leave Portofino and explore.
Rare Keith1010 Posted February 18, 2016 #4 Share Posted February 18, 2016 Portofino is a small area but it is charming and one of the most beautiful ports we have visited. I would not spend three hours getting to and from Cinque Terre. I would explore Portofino and you can also take a boat over to Santa Margarita. Some photos from last year in Portofino. http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-S7Gy924tgOk/VWP78s-bUyI/AAAAAAAAwJw/NqvPXF1xlc4/s1600/DSC_3743.jpg http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-SH5Rj7vErrI/VWP79xu9AmI/AAAAAAAAwJ8/rr4nj1KA_qw/s1600/DSC_3744.jpg http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-8hxTpynN_g4/VWP7-tS4AjI/AAAAAAAAwKI/83OoDi3Olj0/s1600/DSC_3746.jpg http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-FzvSIr-XC9M/VWP-XRGxl5I/AAAAAAAAwKY/w2XGcOxWDv8/s1600/DSC_3747.jpg http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-CZMZDHhV4NI/VWQ4Ja_29kI/AAAAAAAAwL8/4D9WE_Mg9T0/s1600/IMG_4872.jpg http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-iRV22gSMoyg/VWQ7QiHAMII/AAAAAAAAwMo/bIeMo65C-tI/s1600/IMG_4882.jpg http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-XB2wZVc33q0/VWQ8bcmeLYI/AAAAAAAAwM8/tWzIPnwh-uo/s1600/IMG_4890.jpg http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-7ooZ46uNZfw/VWQ8wLwXq1I/AAAAAAAAwNE/bBAyuR_BASg/s1600/IMG_4898.jpg http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-V2X6790Nvnc/VWQ9Y0D_vrI/AAAAAAAAwNU/HNkIWkRzSHg/s1600/IMG_4901.jpg http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-tzcjybCfqOk/VWQ9rhylhxI/AAAAAAAAwNc/onqopsLzCeE/s1600/IMG_4903.jpg http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-5yKySQwUPMg/VWQ9_ssLMeI/AAAAAAAAwNk/JLPyhdwSg2o/s1600/IMG_4904.jpg Keith
LondonTowner Posted February 18, 2016 #5 Share Posted February 18, 2016 Yes, Portofino is a small, pretty town. Apart from strolling around the town you could also go for a glass of prosecco in the Hotel Il Splendido, haunt of the rich and famous.
brunello22 Posted February 18, 2016 #6 Share Posted February 18, 2016 Yes, Portofino is a small, pretty town. Apart from strolling around the town you could also go for a glass of prosecco in the Hotel Il Splendido, haunt of the rich and famous. We did the hike from Santa Margherita to Portofino and decided to stop at Hotel Splendido for a cocktail before heading back. We had two Champagne (not prosecco) cocktails each while enjoying the lovely sights of the town below us ... the bill was $160 USD! We had a great laugh all the way back on our hike to Santa Margherita. :D
Rare Keith1010 Posted February 18, 2016 #7 Share Posted February 18, 2016 I want to add that you can go on two nice kids on Portofino. That is what we did. It is beautiful. Yes, there are many special restaurants there too. And do consider going to Santa Margerita. Often people feel they have to run. Don't do that. Smell the roses. Take in the sites. My view. LondonTowner Posted February 18, 2016 #10 Share Posted February 18, 2016 brunello22 Ha, ha you will certainly remember those champagne cocktails. I hope they were good. Reminds me of going for lunch in Claridges in London with a friend. When the sommelier came around he asked if we would like a glass of champagne . I had the house one, but my friend had Bollinger. When we got the bill it had cost an arm and a leg. We got a taxi outside the hotel and I took her to a nice Spanish place I knew and we had a whole bottle of Cava for her one glass of Bolli. We laughed too.

Tranquility Base Posted March 9, 2019 #13 Share Posted March 9, 2019 We are tendering into Portofino. I am thinking of catching the ferry to San Fruttuoso and then doing the 5km walk back to Portofino. Has anyone done this ?
salabc Posted March 10, 2019 #14 Share Posted March 10, 2019 Please consider that even if limited to 5 km the path between san fruttoso and portofino is a montain so it can take some time
Tranquility Base Posted March 11, 2019 #15 Share Posted March 11, 2019 Thanks for that. Yes, I was planning of an elevation gain / drop of about 300m, and a walk time of about 2 hours (moderate fitness). Does that sound about right ?
