Just watched last nights episode on catch up. Noticed something interesting........the 'Mother & Son' who lost a bag en route and who appear to be staying in a regular Balcony Cabin, when they receive their missing bag I'm pretty sure the beds are made up together.......

Of course they might not have been staying in the same cabin, he might just have been visiting hers. But if he was and there was a double bed then, yes, very odd.

I'm seriously thinking of doing a Princess cruise next year as it has a different itinerary that P&O doesn't do (7 nights to ports including Copenhagen & Oslo) that is quite close to our 30th Wedding Anniversay. So unless P&O can wow me with a different itinerary at the right time (hurry up Monday!!) I will be giving Princess a try.

I would give Princess a go. We have cruised with both as we tend to go by itinerary.

We thoroughly enjoy both lines. Somethings P&O do better, somethings are better on Princess.

The differences are subjective. I have enjoyed the food/drink on both but for me the edge goes to P&O as I love Glass House and Sindhu, drink prices are good without worrying about the dollar (which is awful at the mo) and I like being able to make tea/coffee in the cabin.

I think the entertainment is better on Princess. On one cruise we did out of Miami on princess the shows, comedians and bands were terrific. I find P&O shows rather bland and they really need to stop trotting out the same people to perform. Not that it bothers me that much. We just go to the casino and have few martinis instead.

The excursions on a par, always good with both.

Have fun celebrating your 30th what ever you decide.:D

Just my opinion but if I was paying a load of extra money for the special dining experience is dress up a bit more!

I think they were American and their idea of dressing up is not the same as ours.It was the only thing that disappointed us on our Princess cruise when the majority of passengers were from the United States.

I've enjoyed watching it, but the woman who enjoyed everyone looking at her because she was on the "special" dining table, hmmm..Still I suppose everyone is different :)

If I did not know better that remark would out me off cruising.

It looked as if the women made the effort to be smart, but I wouldn't say the men were particularly smart, most didn't even have a tie on.

Brian

Ties are very rarely worn these days except on formal occasions but I agree they could have made more of an effort, but that's the US version of smart casual. I'd suggest not going on the big US lines if you want people more elegantly dressed.

what did you expect from a predominantly US cruise line?

Thank you! I didn't think itinerary was that important to me but it obviously is because I keep going back to that Princess cruise :D I'm not unhappy with P&O but I really like that itinerary and I do want to try another line just out of interest.

I have done this itinerary, in fact we have done it twice as we enjoyed it so much. The port in Sweden is by tender, and weather was against us on the first trip, so we missed it.

what did you expect from a predominantly US cruise line?

This was our first Princess cruise and was a British Isles cruise from Southampton. We have been on Amercan cruise lines previously but there have never been so many passengers from the US before.

We were surprised how casually the 2200 American passengers dressed in general especially on formal nights.

In contrast the 2nd Princess cruise to the Fjords also from Southampton had predominantly UK passengers and the dress on ship was completely different.

So a US cruise line does not necessarily mean predominantly US passengers and the dress changes according to where the passengers come from.

If you book a cruise; round trip from a non UK port I think booking "cruise only" and organising your own flights is sensible. Direct flights to the airport closest to the cruise port is not always cheapest but worth the extra if it does cost more. Then picking up your cases at the airport and getting a taxi is prudent as is a hotel stay at port a night before sailing day. People think it's more convenient and cheaper to get cruise line to do the flights and transfers of luggage but there are major issues that can happen.

Cruise lines book people onto airlines that have multiple flights and while you transfer does your luggage? Bags in Paris was a reported problem. A passenger flying out of the US might easily have two flights to get to Europe then another to get to Copenhagen. This is almost certainly going to be different airlines and you need proper minimums for transferring flights. Clearly at least 41 cases failed to complete the process efficiently.

Cool! Just remember it's US dollars on board so cross fingers the rate improves. Princess are not as accommodating as P&O about taking booze on board.

If like me, you end up clock watching for the early morning cuppa you ordered from room service (always prompt), do what I do and kick hubby out of bed to get it from the buffet. ;)

We did 17 nts on Grand Princess from Southampton a few years ago. P&O had a very similar cruise but Princess had Malta included, somewhere I'd always wanted to visit as I had lived there as a toddler (Dad was in Royal Navy). There were lots of UK and USA pax and a sprinkle of other nationalities. Everyone scrubbed up lovely for formal nights.

We are now looking forward to Azura, transatlantic to Caribbean, in the October. Done a few of these as we love lazy days at sea.:)

It's not the airline that loses the luggage, it is the baggage handlers.
When it is a Heathrow Terminal 5 baggage system failure, it is BA's responsibility to get your bags to you. So in effect as far as I'm concerned, it was BA who did not deliver my bags in a prompt and efficient manner to my destination when I was on board one of their aircraft.

The great thing about Princess Cruise Line, Kevin is that passenger's names and Captain's Loyalty Tier are posted outside the cabin on the cabin number module. You know where you are then.
