Pitcairn Islands Onboard Experience

We will be on the Marina Pacific Journey, April 11- 28 2016. On April 19 we are slated for the Pitcairn Islands Onboard Experience.

I understand that some Pitcairn Island residents will come aboard to present information, show, crafts for sale etc.

Is this likely to be afternoon? Or evening? We have reservations for Polo at 6:30pm that day. Will we probably be able to enjoy most of the Pitcairn event before and/or after our dinner?

Thanks for your input!

We were on the Marina Valparaiso to Papeete in 2014. There was a lecture from a Pitcairn resident who had boarded the ship in Valparaiso the day before and then the residents of Pitcairn boarded the ship in the morning. Horizons was opened for passengers at 11am and it seemed that all 1200 passengers were in there at the same time! Unless you are determined to buy their lotion or honey, wait until later to go to the lounge. Those items were the first to sell out. We had gone in when it opened, but returned after lunch. It was a lot more mellow then, and we actually had a chance to talk to some of the residents and admire their wares. They left in the late afternoon - all 40 of them in a long boat supplied with provisions from Oceania. Waving them off was a fun experience.

Our experience was the same as grmmybtty.....we must have been on the same cruise. Our captain also took us for a cruise around most of the island. Interesting enrichment lectures and so great to interact with the islanders themselves.

The honey was wonderful....brought several jars that we were going to give to friends but kept them for ourselves!!

You should be fine for a 6:30 seating at Polo....enjoy!!

We were there last year but on another ship.

They came on board during the daytime. They gave two different lectures and they brought on board a lot of crafts to sell. It was very popular.

Just did the Pitcairn thing on Marina in January. All but a handful of the current residents (not quite fifty of them!!!) came aboard for the two (repeat) lectures and what is best described as a "crafts fair." Prices were reasonable and we picked up a cute little coconut hull bowl signed by "Ryan Christian, Age 9" and a carved wood sea star. Actually, the coolest thing about the event was watching the islanders board the ship via rope ladder let down to their long boat.

As to your restaurant reservation, they were long gone before 6:30pm.
