Sunshine Gastroenteritis outbreak

I hate to be picky, but it is the Norovirus, not a bacteria.

My bad, but the point is..............poop on the rails from people not washing their hands is not good........poop carries other bacteria that can cause serious problems too. The Norovirus is in your poop.

Lesson: WASH YOUR FREAKING HANDS PEOPLE! (and I got to type poop........4x):p

I wouldn't be surprised if boarding was delayed slightly because they will need to sanitize the ship. Of course, if you notice, the crew do this on a regular basis anyway. They wipe down most surfaces with a solution containing Clorox to kill the bacteria that causes Noro. But it does come down to passengers washing their hands with SOAP and HOT water for more than 30 seconds to help contain this virus. So if a Noro outbreak starts on your ship, you can likely thank a fellow passenger who didn't wash their hands after going to the potty.............

Skip the potty lectures. It can be from touching anything in this world that's been touched by someone;)

A site called cruise hive quoted the CDC as saying there are 118 cases and that samples were taken and confirm norovirus.

As for the coughing..... Yeah, I'm aware people cough for various reasons. I was talking about people who specified that they are getting upper respiratory issues and even visited doctor onboard for them.

I swear that ship is cursed.

Wonder who brought it on and when. And how long it will take to eradicate it.

I wonder how many erroneously think that sanitizer can combat it.

Hand wash hand wash hand wash. Norovirus was tolerable when we were kids, but is horrid as adults. Especially if vacationing.

Please don't say she's cursed. We're on this ship in August...:o

Hand washing is the best way of spreading germs..

I use paper towels to flush the toilet, turn the water on and off with paper towels...and opening the door...

People are nasty... saw one lady leave the bathroom not wash her hands and touching the rolls by the grill.. told somebody and they threw them all away...

Gross.... that just plain nasty.....

I avoid touching the stair rails... and etc

Tis the season

Cruise Line Cruise Ship Sailing Dates Causative Agent

Carnival Cruise Line Carnival Sunshine 2/21 - 3/5 Norovirus

Royal Caribbean Cruise Line Anthem of the Seas 2/21 - 3/4 Unknown

Princess Cruises Ocean Princess 2/13 - 3/7 Unknown

Oceania Cruises Oceania Riviera 2/12 - 2/22 Norovirus

I don't think Carnival Cruise line makes the list of the top 5 cruise lines for Norovirus.

My first Med cruise was on the NCL Jade when it was having repeated problems with Noro. It was a 12 day cruise where we couldn't touch anything. Servers handed us all drinks, got the food from the buffet, used salt and pepper packets, etc. There was constant cleaning and announcements the whole time. I have never seen so many sanitizers set up everywhere.

Yesterday in St.Thomas why we had to use sanitizer when re-entering the Splendor and security laughed and said nothing was wrong when I questioned if our ship had a problem. I see it was because the Sunshine was docked in front of us and they were concerned of contamination.

They made you use sanitizer? I would definitely have a problem with that!

The CDC says there are 21 million cases of Norovirus annually in the USA. Please understand that the ship (school, movie theater, army base, etc.) doesn't cause noro, people do. And once infected, people can pass on their germs to others.

So if a ship gets affected by Noro, chances are 50/50 that someone near the home port was infected and brought it aboard. Chances are high that the next sailing will have a similar % of infected passengers boarding from infected areas too. Several cases of B2B Noro outbreaks have been reported, including the Crown Princess.

Again, it is not the ship, it is the infected people boarding or working the ship who foster Noro contamination.

Wash those hands!

I always take a pack of Lysol Wipes with me and wipe down the cabin as soon as we enter.

I wipe down the table, vanity, night stands, remotes, door handles, light switches, and bathroom counter, sink, and toilet seat/ flush button. I wipe down pretty much anything we will touch .

It takes less than 5 minutes and gives me a little piece of mind.

*Side note: I do this on planes too ( wipe my armrests, seat belt buckles, and tray table) and saw quite a few other people doing this around me on a flight last month.

Which is really stupid since the sanitizer does not kill the Norovirus!

I, too, would have a problem with that. I hate the stuff. All it does is dry out your skin and then kills all the good bacteria!

I'll be on this ship the last week of April. Does the infected ships/staff generally have a cycle that anyone has noticed? Like a cold takes a week or two to clear up? I know I was sick a couple weeks ago but still have a slight cough that's starting to go away. It's cycled thru most of the staff where I work. Just curious if it may end up doing something similar on a ship.

I really hope this is addressed, and taken care of quickly!

But, as it's been said, it's the time of year that people start to contract the common cold. I understand that Noro is completely different, but I'm just making a generalized statement. When you have that number of people contained in an isolated space, your bound to be affected by someones poor choices, when it comes to hygiene and sanitation.

So what did you do for the rwcirculated air you are breathing the while flight?
