mcrcruiser Posted March 2, 2016 #1 Share Posted March 2, 2016 We booked a 7 night Mexican Riviera cruise on Westerdam for Jan 7 ,2017 .We would prefer the longer 10 night cruise Just wondering why HAL doesn't do the 10 day cruise which includes the ports of LaPaz & Loreto . HAL did this 10 night itinerary in the past from San Diego

DeeniEncinitas Posted March 2, 2016 #3 Share Posted March 2, 2016 We have been doing those cruises for years. Since we live local from 2007-2011 we were doing the Mexican Riviera regularly. We so enjoyed Lorreto and La Paz. We were on The Zandam twice, The Ryndam twice, and Oosterdam. We did only 1 7 day cruise on The Ryndam and 10 days on the other HAL ships! Then all of a sudden HAL pulls out of San Diego late 2011. So cross fingers maybe we will see more trips again! Denise:)
cruz chic Posted March 2, 2016 #4 Share Posted March 2, 2016 My guess is that the 10 day is a harder sell. I did do the copper canyon a few years back on one cruise but I found it disappointing.
RMLincoln Posted March 2, 2016 #5 Share Posted March 2, 2016 We did 10 nights on Ryndam years ago and enjoyed the Sea of Cortez ports, plus the Copper Canyon train... which is mostly a train ride! Very glad we got to it but it was arduous, well long maybe a better word, 4am - 11pm! I don't think el Chepe is running anymore, or at least it stopped for a while due to security issues. We enjoyed La Paz and Loreto but there's really not much there, just nice ambiance and lovely empty beaches. Azamara Quest is doing a nice 12 night itinerary r/t San Diego Feb 2017 to that area with lots of stops in Sea of Cortez, but it's pricey. Maybe things will shift back if security issues resolve. m--
Krazy Kruizers Posted March 2, 2016 #6 Share Posted March 2, 2016 We loved those 10 day cruises -- there were 2 different 10 day cruises. We booked them 2 or 3 times -- made the horrible air flight across country worth while. I wish HAL would bring them back as well.

stairMaster Posted March 3, 2016 #9 Share Posted March 3, 2016 One of the main reasons we booked on Princess this past Winter was for the 10 day Mexican Riviera cruise from San Fran. Holland America was our first choice but the 7 day cruise out of San Diego ( which also required an additional airport stop ) didn't appeal to us. We were very satisfied with the Princess and would do the same trip again.
COMBOY Posted March 3, 2016 #10 Share Posted March 3, 2016 (edited) We booked a 7 night Mexican Riviera cruise on Westerdam for Jan 7 ,2017 .We would prefer the longer 10 night cruise Just wondering why HAL doesn't do the 10 day cruise which includes the ports of LaPaz & Loreto . HAL did this 10 night itinerary in the past from San Diego Only HAL marketing dept could definitely answer this question for you; but in general cruise lines place their ship where they feel they can make the highest return on investment for their shareholders. Mexico in the last several years has been a real hard sell (due to perceived violence, crime, etc) and some cruise lines have move ships to other cruising areas because there is simply not the demand for Mexico. Princess still does 10 night cruises from Los Angeles & San Francisco as they believe with less competition they can still make profit sailing to Mexico on the 10-day cruises as well as HAL just doing 7-day Mexico. It's as simple as demand = supply. Edited March 3, 2016 by COMBOY
