Going through Panama Canal while in the Retreat

We will be sailing on the Zuiderdeam on The 10-day Panama Canal cruise, leaving March 18. We have the family cabana in the Retreat. Is the Retreat a good place to be while going through the canal? Thanks!

We are doing the same for our Feb 2017 Z'dam partial transit. I was so anxious to get my Costa del Sol family retreat cabana I called Ship Services as soon as I booked. Cabana sales for that sailing had not even been released in the computer. The agent asked her supervisor if they could be released for reservations and I got it.

As you will start your voyage through the Canal about 6:30am, you might want to be on the bow. Or at least one of the front facing decks. But after that, yes, a Family Cabana would be great.

Give it a try viewing from there. You will be transiting for a long time. Move around the ship to see different views. You likely would not just want to stay in one place the whole time.

Are you thinking about early in the morning?

The ship lines up about 5 AM. Then the Zuiderdam starts through about 7 - 7:30 AM.

I don't think the Cabanas are open that early.

If you aren't going on a tour -- then your cabana will work for the afternoon when you go back out of the locks. But you really aren't going to see the mules working that much from up there.

You may find it too high to really get the view of the locks opening and closing.
