Someone posted that drinks are now free in casino if playing slots. I haven't been on Princess in 4 years. Is this a new thing. Thanks

I highly doubt that. Haven't been on a ship since Nov and they certainly weren't free then.

On a recent Ruby Princess cruise, you earn drinks based on your play in the casino. The machines tracked it automatically, and the hosts/waitress walked around when you are eligible to ask you what you want. Hope this helps...

We frequent the casino and this is certainly not the norm, although we've been comped some free drinks in the past but not regularly. It helps if you introduce yourself to the casino host or at least one of the casino staff that has the authority to comp a drink. I am sure if you are placing $100 bets at the tables, you will be taken care of. It is quite rare to see complimentary drinks at the penny slots, though.

Once in a blue moon, I think it is when there is not a gambling crowd onboard, they do have a bloody mary / mimosa promotion in the casino: 1 free drink if you are playing at a certain time.

We were at the casino with my nephew when his machine just died right in the middle of his play....the screen just went blank. He was offered a free cocktail while waiting for the casino staff member to reboot his machine.

Other than those situations ... not a lot of free drinks being passed around. I doubt it will ever be like you would see in Vegas.

You need to check in with the pit boss for table games who will swipe your card or sign in to the slots. You earn casino credits pretty quickly. They can be used multiple ways. For reasons I don't understand, the program is not widely used or promoted. The casinos are changing from the old days when they were where old slot machines went to die. Who knows they may even start paying decently on odds bets at the craps tables............

If you play a lot you may also acquire enough points to qualify for "casino cash" on a later cruise. We have almost $1,000 coming to us on a cruise next week. You usually have 1 month to book and 6 months to sail

The Emerald was trying a drink program. As you earn points you earned drinks. The points you needed were not crazy high.(100 points) This was for playing the slots. I had too many drinks and would share with other players.

"Eligible" for free drinks when gambling? Blasphemy! I guess because I live in California where I visit Reno or Vegas a few times a year, I'm happily spoiled. You're "eligible" for free and constantly-replenshing drinks -- a standard and ubiquitous occurrence -- just by showing up at a table or machine. Part of the fun! In fact, the casinos "bank" on it (getting you inebriated so you make bad gambling decisions). Doing same on a ship would increase foot traffic and gambling ten-fold. You'd think Princess would wise up.

That would be a huge improvement from what I've seen in the past. From what I recall, it required either 1,000 or 3,000 points earned for a single free drink.

I do remember it equated to around 4-5 hours of max coin on penny slots ($1.50 - $2.50 per play)

I don't gamble (because I have horrible luck, not because I'm morally opposed to it), but my in laws spend a lot of time in the casino when we cruise and they got a lot of free drinks last spring on the Regal.

On the Emerald's Christmas cruise (but not the cruise before it), they piloted a program where you earn a free drink for every so many points you earn. The first level was 100, the second was 200, and then the next was like 330 or 350. I asked why I didn't get a drink at 300, and they said you have to increasingly get more and more points to earn the free drinks after the first 2. Was pretty cool!

Those drinks aren't free, there the most expensive drinks on the ship. Your paying for them . It's cheaper to sit at a bar for 4 hours and pay for your drinks then it is to gamble and get a couple drinks at the casino. We go to the casino a few times every cruise and have never had a drink bought for us. We also don't spend much there and don't expect a drink for the small amount we spend.

We live in Nevada where the casinos take good care of their customers, not so on a cruise ship. We just came back from full transit on the Island Princess. We were each offered a free drink only once, even though we spent a lot, and that was towards the end of the cruise.

I remember my first cruise on the Ocean Princess in 2001, just after 9/11...10 night southern Caribbean out of FLL........they had a promotion in the casino with free Bloody Mary's for an hour or 2 hour period. While my wife was at her massage, I was boozing it up in the casino on Bloodies....and they kept them coming! Needless to say, after her massage, she was all relaxed, and I was bombed! LOL.

Is this new casino points program on all ships? We said on the CB next week!

a couple of years ago when the casino gave points for playing and you could earn $10., we were on a cruise where they changed that. They gave you for 1000 points free drinks in the casino. You had to order them there as well. This made our friends who gamble quite a bit, remain in the casino as much as they could. lol

If you play enough, you will get free drinks. We play only the slots, but play quite a bit - after the 2nd or 3rd day, they will see how much you play and offer you the free drinks.....

eclue;)

On Crown last month you were able to get free drinks if you had so many points in your players bank.. They don't advertise it though- someone seated next to me showed me how to check my balance and it showed the number of drinks available... I don't know if it was a pilot or not... Will check it out when I am on board again.
