They will lose a bit on their casino not opening till a lot of people are heading off to bed.

They will be 3 miles out by 8:00 at the latest. I hardly think that a lot of people will be heading off to bed then.

I also received a letter about this. So we have to be on the ship before 5 pm right??? I might change my airlines to fly out early Saturday instead. That saves on hotel etc....

Yes!

I still think flying in a day early is a better option, if financially able.

You are well rested, not worrying about flight delays, then rushing to port.

Still not a great idea to fly down day of departure, no matter when the ship actually departs. There are way too many things that can delay/cancel/mess up your flight, and with airplanes all flying full these days, it can take a long time, even overnight, to get the next available seats.

When is the first sailing with the 7 pm departure?

Because what I am really wondering about is what time is the muster drill? 4?, 5?, 6? they can not mess up dinner with muster right?

Departures at around 7pm are common in many itineraries (in Europe for example).

On those cruises, muster usually takes place at around 4.30pm. There is a make up drill the next day for anyone who wasn't onboard by then.

Thanks Videotech. I'm not changing anything at the moment. My flights are still coming a day before cruise. I just got off the Escape and my party flew way early in the morning of cruise but we were sooo tired by the time we were on. Took a nap after muster and miss out on a couple of hours and sail away. Lesson learned.

It still hasn't been determined exactly what time the muster drill will be or exactly what time the sail away party will start. We are a group of 17 and I am working with special events to coordinate our restaurant reservations. As of this morning, they said it isn't set yet and they are waiting before doing our reservations until this information is known.

Interestingly enough NCL Germany wrote on their Facebook page;

Spätere Abfahrt der ‪#‎NorwegianEscape‬ ab ‪#‎Miami‬ macht Kreuzfahrten für deutsche Gäste ohne Vorübernachtung erreichbar.

Which roughly translates:

Later sailaway of Norwegian Escape from Miami makes cruises for German guests without pre night stay available.

Non-stop flight Frankfurt - Miami by Lufthansa's A380 takes 10½ hr and lands at 3.30pm.

edit: maybe some holiday charter flights come in earlier but almost no flights (let alone with a layover) that touch down before 3pm from the early morning departures from Europe..

Wonder what the difference is in a 7 day versus 8 day cruise ? Yes, I know, 1 day :), but our 8 day in August is still saying a 4 p.m. departure. I guess this only affects 7 day cruises ? Again it doesn't really matter. Direct flight from Cincy on Friday and will be in by noon. Planning a nice leisurely day and evening in Miami and probably head for the port Saturday by 10:30. Escape can leave when she wants. We're aboard !!! Gerry

Buckeye Rob - I'm also on the 8/20 sailing and it definitely affects us as I got the letter.

How does it affect you ? Flights/ extra night for hotel?

You can still board at same time and start enjoying the ship. Yes a few more $$ on taxes for drinks while in port, but not that much.

oh I know! I'm just saying I got a letter about the change to 7:00. I'm still getting onboard early.

Funny I cannot for the life of me find the email now but I got it on 2/29 because I posted to a friend that I got the email. Strange. LOL

I just want to make sure that first time cruisers are aware that their drink package will not be free drinks while we are in port in Miami--since we do not leave until 7 pm there will be a lot of drinking before departure. WHAT DOES HE MEAN??? HE MEANS--you will be charged a Florida Sales tax (perhaps 6-7%) on the "value" of your drink. This will be charged to your "on board "account even though you have the drink package. This will continue until we are a few miles from the port (ask bartender).

6-7% tax on a 8.00 drink= .48-.56 per drink! Even if you drink 10 drinks each your are talking $5-$6 x 2 = an extra $10-$12.

If that's going to cause people to get upset , they then have the option to wait!

I was going to "hotel night before, park at hotel for free, pay for ride to port" but now I'm going to "drive day of cruise, pay for parking, pay taxes on drinks for longer..."

I'll save a few bucks, I guess.
