Coffee on the Escape

My husband and I usually need a few cups of coffee each before we start functioning. I'm really looking forward to starting my day, sitting out on our balcony, enjoying a cup o' Joe. I know there is a coffee maker in the room. How many coffee packets do they give you? Can we request more? Is there anywhere I can go to get a complimentary cup of coffee and bring it back to my room?

Thank you for posting that. It's funny, every morning I eat a banana for breakfast. Looks like I can have room service deliver one to me (yeah right. . . . . I'm on a cruise, I'm splurging).

I wasn't a fan of the coffee at the buffet or in the dining rooms, but, the Atrium Café had great coffee...(for a fee)! But, it was worth every penny to me!! I never tried the room service though, I thought it was a $7.95 charge on any order. Dang!

If you use the coffee maker that is in your cabin and need more of the packets

simply ask your cabin steward for as many as you need.

Need more sugar or cream ask for that also.

Have a hankering for still more coffee and out of packets take the pot to the

buffet and fill it up. Grab more cups if you need them !

When we were on the Escape, the in-room coffee maker was a single cup type (not Keurig style), but used the little filter packs and made one cup at the time. Now...I HAVE figured out how to make a decent cup of in room coffee, but it would depend on how many cups each you need. We had each evening in our room, two regular and two decaf packs, but towards the end of the cruise I asked our steward to give us only regular and he did. Four packs was enough, because I'm the only coffee drinker in the cabin, but I'm sure they'll give you more.

Here's how to make terrible coffee into pretty decent coffee:

Double up the packs!! I would put two in the brewer, then add a full cup of water, and let it run through. It was pretty good!! I usually drink two cups while I'm getting ready before breakfast, so the four packs was enough.

This might at least hold you over until your carafe arrives from room service.

As an early riser, I would walk the common areas and found strategically placed options, like in the Casino, a small set up of coffee and pastries. O'Sheehans is always open and will make you your coffee to go.

The buffet always has plenty of coffee and pastries or a full breakfast.

Of course room service is great, to order coffee and continental, which will tide you over until you can go out for a real breakfast.

This:

You can order room service and they will bring you a carafe. We never used the coffee maker in our room.

But please take this advice as well:

My husband & I need coffee to function like humans.

Bring a travel mug to fill up in the buffet area when going for breakfast. The cups they provide are tiny. And the coffee is not great. Actually, not good. AT ALL.

The mugs have a top and is so much easier to navigate around the ship once you leave the area.

I usually order coffee via room service for the next morning as well.

I brought my own travel mug on the cruise, which I would fill up each morning at the Garden Café (buffet). I'm an early riser and they always had coffee when I went. I drank the decaf and I liked it.

I never did try the little one in the room.

Although the room service was complimentary, it was my understanding that a service fee was charged so I never ordered room service.

Lucky me - my room was Deck 15 mid-aft - just a quick zip up the stairs to the coffee!

there was no service fee charged. We ordered coffee, milk and fruit, yogurt etc every day. The full breakfast is what you were charged. The only thing we paid was the $2 tip we gave the person who brought us the tray.

Hi! I'm from Argentina, I'm sailing on Norwegian Getaway 04/17/2016. This is my first time outside my country... and my first time on a cruise too! What is the best place to drink some morning coffee?

I don't have a clue about how much I should tip, for example, the waitress on a restaurant or the stewards... could you help me with this? Thanks!!

Thank you so much for the detailed info! We sail on the Escape on 4/16. My kids were very excited to see the room service menu, since one morning we will be getting off the ship at 7 am and wanted something to eat fast or be able to take along. A carafe of coffee being a big bonus. One question I do have though is, are there any other milk options? My son is allergic to milk and I am lactose intolerant so we normally do almond or soy milk as a substitute. Any info on that would be appreciated. Thanks!

Questions about room service:

If we place our order the night before, do we specify what time we'd like it delivered?

Do they knock on your door, or can you request that they leave it outside?

I've got a late sleeper in the room.

Thank you!

My favorite coffee experiences on the Escape were sitting in the Atrium in the afternoon, and wanting to take a break from "adult beverages" with a nice cup or two of plain black coffee while doing trivia with my family.

The response from the servers and the bartenders was that if I wanted a cup of coffee I would need to go up to the bakery counter and order one and pay for it. Alternatively, they would bring me a cup of coffee with Baileys in it for free, since I had the UBP.

Let's just say that one of those options worked better than the other.
