Getting concerned..

I have been on many ships. You can always move chairs to where you want and people are leaving chairs all the time. Don't worry about it. I wouldn't get up early to save chairs. Security usually is watching and when you go back and 10 AM (or whatever time) your seats will be gone. I hope this helps.

I have read lost of comments on here and Facebook about the pool deck on the Escape being too crowded and that there are no chair unless you get up ay 6am. If that's the case, what else is there to do during sea days?

There are so many things to do on the ships like the Escape that on a 7 day cruise you might not get to do all of them. Usually you can find chairs in the pool area unless you are there during Spring Break.

As far as I am concerned, any chair that only has towels on it to save it, is up for grabs. Sometimes I just watch the chairs for a few minutes just to see if someone ran to the bathroom quickly. If they aren't back in a few minutes, I'll just move the towels to the ground and use the chair.

Why are people so rude? I understand frustrations but some people get up and get seats early, go have breakfast and come back to the pool, get up and go to the pool, maybe swim, watch the sexy leg contest, use the hot tub....that doesn't give anyone the right to just throw towels off a seat and take it......I wake up early go to the gym, eat breakfast, go back up to my room, shower change in to my swim trunks and go to the pool by 8am and find seats....before anyone complains, its simple....wake up early and get prime seats. if not, deal with finding something else....and lets not pretend people complaining about the seats find something and glue themselves all day long without jumping in the pool, or hitting the hot tub. and if they do.... do you swim with all your stuff? Do you take your towel, flip flops, cover ups, sunscreen, books all to the pool with you? I highly doubt it. Understand if someone was away for hours then I can understand...but if you are paying that close attention to it for that long of a time....maybe a cruise isn't for you. maybe next time you do Vibe or Book a Haven Suite. its that easy :)

Wrong answer..... NO SAVING CHAIRS. Read the sign. Bottom line. I do the same thing. I watch for about 5 minutes.... no one comes, no other stuff there, I take em. They arent in the pool, their would be flip flops or additional items besides just a towel if in the pool....

I wake up early go to the gym, eat breakfast, go back up to my room, shower change

Thats like 2 hours, not 15 minutes....

Saving chairs .... congrats, you are part of the problem.

This is the one thing about Escape I am not looking forward to. But then again, I am not afraid of confrontation. So, If i do it to you feel free to say something to me and we can discuss it.

We might be rude for moving them in your eyes, but holding chairs is a being an arse in ours......

that's what I said.....don't take words out of context....I do all that BEFORE I get my seat and lay down. Again idgaf that's completely rude....I have never gotten upset over seats that were being held and no one is there. that's too much work to be angry on vacation because you didn't get a chair.

I dont get upset, but I know the rules, no holding chairs. So, if I see some abandoned towels for some time. I liberate those chairs of those oppressive towels.....

Excuse me... Where did I say anything about moving personal items such as books, cover ups, flip flops? If there are empty chairs that only have a single towel on it and nobody has used that chair for several minutes, I move the towel to the floor and use the chair. I don't throw personal items or towels into the trash and then take the chairs. If someone were to come back upset over the fact that their towel only was moved from the chair to the ground, I would give the chair up. It's not worth getting upset over it, like you would apparently. We're all on vacation.

I'm one of those people who get up early to get a lounger by the pool. If you want a prime spot next to the pool, you need to be an early bird. I've seen it all in the early hours. It annoys me immensely when people drop a towel and then leave for an hour or more. However, if I jump in the water for a few minutes, that doesn't give someone the right to take my spot, since I got up early for it. I've watched people leave and then come back irate hours later when their spot is gone, and I've seen late comers try to sit on a lounger where someone has left for just a few minutes. My husband and I are doing the Haven because I've seen too many people arguing on vacation.

BTW- some people need to read- she didn't say she got the lounger and then hit the shower and had breakfast, she did that BEFORE the lounger.

You and I think very alike. People that save chairs and then go hit the gym, grab a shower, eat a meal and come back 2 hours later are the problem, not us who simply move a towel from the chair to the ground if nobody is actively using the chair.

I think the poster said they do all of those things before getting the chair at 8am.

I don't enjoy laying by the pool. I always prefer to get a spot away from the pool. When we sail on the Getaway in Nov. it will be our first time with NCL. Please tell me there is plenty of other spots to lay out besides the pool area?

On the Epic, we enjoyed being on the upper decks above the pool area. You can still hear the music, but you are removed from the crowds. But only go up there if your skin can handle full-blown sun!

If someone is in the pool, their other stuff is there...cover up, book, bag, etc.... Just a towel is a hogged chair, 99% of the time.

That said...there are plenty of loungers...you don't have to be within spitting distance of the actual pool!

The rule on all NCL ships we've been on allows at least 30 minutes of holding chairs. Even with the time limit, you don't have the right to move anybody's stuff away (even on the floor), only the ship staff may do so.

And just to be sure since reading and understanding other people's posts seems hard: I don't spend usually any time on sun deck but when I do (max couple of hours per cruise), I visit hottubs, be away for more than few minutes to get lunch, etc, etc and fully expect others to adhere to the actual rules - not the ones they made up themselves.

I'm sorry to say that you are right.....we have sailed many ships and the escape main pool is poorly designed. It was horribly crowded. We were lucky enough to sail the haven and had our own pool. If you can't do the haven...I would take one of your least favorite ports and stay on the boat. Let you kids have the slides/waterpark to themselves. That's my best tip!

It sounds like she is a mommy of 3 boys...just like me :)))) You must be close to the pool when you have children!

I'm going in November too, we like a spot in the shade and not near super loud music. I like to hear it but want some peace too :)

I am not sure about on the Escape but if you want quiet and not the pool scene head to the front of the ship. On the Away ships it shares the sundeck space with Haven, a wall between. There is a bar outside of Vibe as well. I have always seen vacant chairs up there.

Plenty of spots on the Getaway (and I'm assuming the Escape since it's basically the same) away from the pool on the upper deck, both in the sun and in the shade.

We did exactly that...we sailed at capacity (or so we were told) and never had a problem finding two chairs together up there. We had a view of the pool, and one time saw people leaving from right next to the pool, so ran down there and got lucky. Otherwise, we enjoyed being up away from the main pool but with the views and the sounds. Plus, on that ship...the pool feels so enclosed. I like being up top with views of the ocean :)

Also, in regards to chair hogs...I think those of us against it mean just a single towel on a chair. We all know there are those families that Mom wakes up at 6am, takes the 4 towels and puts them on 4 chairs, and then heads back to the room to proceed with morning activities until the family arrives back to the pool at 9 or 10am. THAT is what we hate and is not ok. If someone goes to get a drink/food or go to the pool/hot tub, their stuff is also on the chairs: cover ups, books, bags, sunscreen, sandals, etc. They are usually gone maybe tops 30min before coming back to their chairs, which is totally understandable. Plus, someone in the group is usually on a chair nearby. So don't get all worked up over people hating on chair hogs and moving a single towel (that's a free ship towel, btw)...it's perfectly acceptable and fair.
