teamflames Posted March 18, 2016 #26 Share Posted March 18, 2016 I get your concern, teamflames, 100% if I wasn't able to book onboard services and activities. If I was lucky enough to be booked on an upcoming sailing, I would be frustrated, too. As it is, I will have to wait until February to get my first glimpse. For whatever reason ( maybe I'm getting old [emoji57]) I'm super excited about Koningsdam. BTW, the movies are also featured on page 7 of the most recent Mariner magazine. I love that HAL actually mails a magazine to my home. Hope you have a great cruise! I am also super excited, my point is I would just like Hal to match my enthusiasm [emoji28] Sent from my iPod touch using Tapatalk
sail7seas Posted March 18, 2016 #27 Share Posted March 18, 2016 (edited) Must be generational, at least in my case. I don't really welcome or expect companies with whom I do business to keep urging me to get more, buy more, plan more, plan and get more into their product than I choose to do on my own. I'm too independent for that but, of course, that is only my individual preference. My late DH and I were always 'self-entertainers' and never got into the 'fun games' offered aboard. It's all fine and no criticism of it but just not my style. Edited March 18, 2016 by sail7seas

Cruiser Bruiser Posted March 18, 2016 #29 Share Posted March 18, 2016 Do any of the mass market cruise lines send e-mails about what entertainment will be on for your cruise? Do they send notices of changes to restaurants? I've sailed a number of lines and I never got anything like that. I certainly don't expect HAL to start sending such notifications. I've sailed HAL since before Statendam joined the fleet and haven't yet seen anything like that. I'm doing my third short sailing (4 nights) on Princess in a couple weeks, as they are very convenient from the West Coast. I receive an email from them every couple weeks encouraging me to book a shore excursion, book specialty dining, book spa treatments, etc. But Princess is the only line I've sailed with thus far that does this. teamflames Posted March 18, 2016 #30 Share Posted March 18, 2016 So there is a proactive marketing manager out there in the industry [emoji1] Sent from my iPod touch using Tapatalk

teamflames Posted March 18, 2016 #32 Share Posted March 18, 2016 Sounds like only one. :D I'd find it annoying for him/her to be in my mailbox all the time trying to sell me things. :( Probably reflects our travel styles, cruising is a rare, special occasion style. Normally on land based sand much more diy, so for the odd cruise I want "all the fixins" [emoji851] Sent from my iPod touch using Tapatalk

I cruise for cruising - not to be entertained by technology, shows or casinos. Arg!!!! I am with you! I am with you! With you all, also! The screen will detract from the seagoing aura. And I think you can count on it be on some or most of the time that there is no movie - perhaps similar to the image of a computer screensaver, accompanied by "techno" music. (As for casinos or shows, I don't put them in the same category - one simply doesn't go if not interested. The big screen, on the other hand, can dominate an area that everybody needs.)
