Footy on TV

Call me stupid, or a pessimist, but when I booked my cruise it never occurred to me that my team(Sheffield Wednesday) would be in the championship play-offs. Now it looks like I might have a problem.

Does anyone know if there would be the slightest chance that they would be shown on the ship's TV.

Apart from the possible lack of demand, for the first leg we will be heading towards Iceland at the time so there might be a technical issue.

When I was on solstice in Sept/Oct, they were showing the rugby World Cup every day on the TV's at the casino bar.

I know nothing about soccer so don't know if it's a big game or not, but considering the showed rugby on a cruise full of non rugby US/Canadian passengers, I'd assume they might do the same for soccer.

We will have same issue David. I am an Owls fan and my husband is a Rams fan. Still lot can change but if (and its a big if ) one or both get to the finals we will be in the middle of the med.

It would be great to be able to watch it but am not holding out much hope so will probably have to invest in some internet access that day and keep in touch of the scores via the net

So potentially Owls v Rams ? Better keep away from the balcony rails that day !

Had Premier League matches on the Equinox out of Barcelona in 2014, so there's some hope, given the importance of the play-offs. A good result for Wednesday today!

Stuart

Thanks Stuart, fingers crossed. Mind you we have to get to play off finals first. Good win for both Owls and Rams today so everyone happy at our house.:D

Yes, great game today. If we had to watch with the speed of the ship's internet it would be like watching Sheffield United.

I am viewing this via the CC app which doesn't show sigs and tags. But I'll guess you will be on a ship from the U.K. You won't be the only one with this concern.

Go talk to the CD. He/she is eager to find ways to keep passengers amused and occupied. Ask about putting the Championship matches at least on room tv, maybe on a theater screen. If you and both other fans make the request, it might happen! It will probably help if you go armed with info on which channel(s) will be broadcasting.

  • 3 weeks later...

I sent a message to Celebrity and received this reply

"The ship will have major sports showing onboard which will include the football"

All I have to do now is find something for my wife to do for a couple of hours.

Over the 9 celebrity cruises I've taken English football gams have been very really seen... I've seen champions league games on a few occasions but only a couple of premier league games at best, although the play offs are huge in the uk I doubt there's much call for them outside the uk, it's a shame as they are normally great games to watch...

Fingers crossed for ya [emoji4]

Celebrity like P&O have Sport 24 on stateroom TV's as well as in the Grand Foyer and Casino TV's, but I have never seen any FL games on Sport 24, only PL and FA Cup.

However Celebrity also have Sky Sports News on the stateroom TV's, and you will get their Gillette Soccer Saturday style studio updates, and then certainly some of the goal action after the match if not during it, as per their midweek soccer specials.

As regards signal, there should be no problem unless in hilly ports where you might be missing a line of site connection to the satellite.

Just realized that I'll be on the Millennium for the UEFA Champions League final.

It sounds like it should be on a TV somewhere on board. But I don't see any TV's in the pictures I can find of her Casino. I found some old posts saying that Michael Club is the sports bar but I know they changed the format of that venue.

So ideas of where to look for the game? Will it be in the daily? Do I need to seek out the CD? Thanks for your input (most of the Q&A seems to be around the S class ships, so I know I have less venues to work with on the M class)

Go Bayern :)

I think that there is more chance of it being shown if you cruise starts from uk. We leave from Italy so think there is little chance of that happening.

Let's hope the wifi works :)

These are the dates for the games that we discussed a few weeks ago. Looks like your husband and I will avoid each other in the semi finals and meet at Wembley (here's hoping).

I've sent a reminder to Customer services in the hope that they can help.

Hope you have a good trip

David

Sky Bet Championship – Match A

Leg 1 (6 v 3): Friday 13th May (7.45pm)

Leg 2 (3 v 6): Monday 16th May (7.45pm)

Sky Bet Championship – Match B

Leg 1 (5 v 4): Saturday 14th May (12.30pm)

Leg 2 (4 v 5): Tuesday 17th May (7.45pm)

We will still be in uk for the semi finals but I really do hope the owls and Rams meet each other in the final even if we aren't able to watch it. I will also try sending a message to customer services. Do you have an email address.
