ian moore Posted March 20, 2016 #1 Share Posted March 20, 2016 We are considering a cruise on the Royal Princess next year. Normally, on Princess ships, we take a balcony cabin on the Aloha or Baja decks. These cabins have balconies that are not overlooked by the balconies above ie people in the cabins above us cannot see down into our balcony(without leaning over the handrail!!!). Usually, we are able to see the people on the balconies on the Caribe deck for example as their balconies protrude further out. Is this the case with the Royal Princess? Do any of the balconies overlook other balconies? Also,if there are any views on the premium deluxe balcony cabins at the aft of the Royal, are they worth the extra cost? Many thanks for all replies. cruzsnooze Posted March 20, 2016 #2 Share Posted March 20, 2016 (edited) The balconies on the Royal are tiny weeny compared to other Princess ships so just be aware so you won't be surprised. I had a premium balcony and it's the same size as a regular balcony cabin. Edited March 20, 2016 by cruzsnooze
-Lew- Posted March 20, 2016 #3 Share Posted March 20, 2016 To answer the OP's question, there are no balcony cabins along the sides of the ship that overlook balconies below. Some balconies immediately below the bumpout are visible to those on the walkway. Some aft-facing balconies are visible from above.
paul929207 Posted March 20, 2016 #4 Share Posted March 20, 2016 We had a balcony (A728) near back last week. Our downward view was of the Promenade deck.

Ian Moore The balconies on these decks on the Royal do not look down on other balconies. The standard balcony on these decks can range from a little smaller than the ones on the same decks on other Princess ships to Dolphin and Caribe size balconies found on Grand class ships. The larger balconies are found in the mid-ship area on all decks, forward facing balconies and aft facing balconies. The aft cabins are tiered so someone can see you on your balcony. Edited March 20, 2016 by Mom33
seafish Posted March 20, 2016 #6 Share Posted March 20, 2016 Yes IMO - many of the Royal/Regal balconies are painfully small compared to e.g. Grand Class ships...definitely was a booking issue for us. Really shocked to see how small they actually are. But recently did Royal in MA port side mid-ship mini with extended angled fully covered balconies which was fairly spacious with no reported privacy problems. Travel friends had same deck mini with the smaller balcony-not much space even for even 2 people-not happy. But we really liked our cabin choice so much we booked the same cabin on a future Regal B2B. Although we prefer a fully-covered larger mid-ships balcony - it's just a matter of what's best for you. Hope this info helps.
Pam in CA Posted March 20, 2016 #7 Share Posted March 20, 2016 All Royal Princess balconies on the sides of the ship are covered. No one on any other balcony can see into a balcony below. If people are on the Skywalk, they can see the balconies immediately below. The Royal/Regal balconies are about 1' narrower than those on the Grand-class ships with the exception of Caribe and mini-suites.
nhawkins Posted March 20, 2016 #8 Share Posted March 20, 2016 We sailed on the Halloween cruise in October 2015 from NYC. We had a mini-suite C428...port side mid ship. The Caribe deck is far enough below the "bump out" so privacy was not an issue. The balcony was approximately 9'x9'. While on board we tried to book the same cabin for the 2016 Halloween cruise....but it was already booked! Luckily we were able to book C414....same size cabin and balcony. The cabin was perfect fou us...
