VibeGuy Posted March 22, 2016 #6 Share Posted March 22, 2016 I saw an ad today as well: IC surcharge disclaimer by epthompson, on Flickr Either the disclaimer is there because a coffee beverage is pictured or because there is potentially a surcharge for certain premium chocolate treats, marking a return to the confusion of earlier eras where some items at the IC were extra. Colo Cruiser Posted March 22, 2016 #7 Share Posted March 22, 2016 (edited) Boy I hope not. This is what they did when they first opened the IC. Had charges on those very type of things in the photo. Edited March 22, 2016 by Colo Cruiser
Treven Posted March 22, 2016 #8 Share Posted March 22, 2016 According to an email I got today, Princess was touting new chocolate 😃 oferriings in the IC. The email stated that there would be a modest charge for those items.
arizonaperson Posted March 22, 2016 #9 Share Posted March 22, 2016 I just saw a princess ad and it said there was a charge for goodies at the international cafe ( one of my fav places). Not the case on our last cruise in October. Any info on this? Thanks I don't have first hand experience on this, but read they have some Norman Love desserts that have a fee. Gelato is a fee for those ships that have it at the I.C.,but it's a great price.( 3 scoops for $1.50) Coffee and specialty tea is for a fee,but I don't consider that part of the I.C.,it is to the left of the I.C. OCruisers Posted March 22, 2016 #10 Share Posted March 22, 2016 There were no charges for any food items in the IC in Jan/Feb but things can change.
Nan_Sea Posted March 22, 2016 #11 Share Posted March 22, 2016 On the Regal in Jan. there was a charge for some desserts in the evening. Maybe the special chocolate desserts?
anthonyy7 Posted March 22, 2016 #12 Share Posted March 22, 2016 The nominal charge either refers to the coffee drink in the picture or it's for the new Norman Love chocs. I dunno if I would pay extra for those because the usual goodies at the IC are delicious and no charge!

tartan cruiser Posted March 22, 2016 #14 Share Posted March 22, 2016 On the Regal 1/31/2016 and they had a display case with "premium" desserts similar to the ones pictured. I think they were priced about $2 each. Never saw anyone buying or eating them. Never felt the need or desire to purchase one either.
caribill Posted March 22, 2016 #15 Share Posted March 22, 2016 According to an email I got today, Princess was touting new chocolate oferriings in the IC. The email stated that there would be a modest charge for those items. Of course Princess considers $39 to be a modest charge for the new Share restaurant. Yes, the new modest charge is for the new chocolate items. What bothers me is that these items no doubt take the space of items (some chocolate no doubt) that used to be there and were free. This means less choice of free items at the IC. When the IC was first introduced with the launch of the Crown, there were charges for a number of items from candied apples to chocolate covered strawberries. After a few years, these items were no longer available at the IC and everything was free except for gelato. I assume this happened due to low sales. Rare donswife Posted March 22, 2016 #16 Share Posted March 22, 2016 I am booked for the Crown in august, and have no intention of buying for-fee desserts. There are more than enough included already!

antsp Posted March 22, 2016 #18 Share Posted March 22, 2016 If no one buys them they will disappear, it's down to Princess passengers to make this a success or not.
biker1972 Posted March 22, 2016 #19 Share Posted March 22, 2016 A thought on modest: if I paid $1999 for a cruise and I paid $2 for a dessert that would only be .1 of a percent charge. $39 with that same cruise price would be almost 2% of the price. Dessert modest; special dinner not modest. Just remember when going on a cruise that it can be priceless and to not leave home without your credit card.
Kenosha Cruiser Posted March 22, 2016 #20 Share Posted March 22, 2016 (edited) I received the same E-mail today. The chocolate desserts being sold in the International Café for a nominal charge is for Norman Love creations. Other items will still be free of charge. Here's a photo of some of the Norman Love desserts that will be for sale at the International Café. anthonyy7 Posted March 22, 2016 #21 Share Posted March 22, 2016 Premium chocolate comes with a price and if they only do 1 item per day that will keep waste down if nobody buys them. Depending on price and how much OBC I got left I may be tempted

basor Posted March 22, 2016 #23 Share Posted March 22, 2016 Thanks to Sip and Sail promo we have the AIBP on both of our upcoming cruises....we have never purchased before so not clear on what is covered. If I am reading correctly, the gelato and "fee" desserts at the IC are covered by the AIBP. Looking forward to hearing from others as to exactly what is included at the IC with our AIBP (All Inclusive Beverage Package).

It's just one more thing in a long list of "upcharges" Princess has been promoting lately.
