New fixed rate for Paris airport taxis

The taxis in Paris are now required to charge a flat rate from the airports to downtown Paris and visa versa. It applies to Charles De Gaulle and to Orly. This is the news article: http://www.thelocal.fr/20160229/flat-rate-for-paris-airport-taxis-comes-into-force This makes it a no-brainer for us to use the taxi as it's so much easier than hauling luggage on and off public transportation and goes right to our hotel.

Best choice for saving big on transport to city is the RER.

Details – Charles de Gaulle to Paris Airport Train

About the RER B Train

The quickest & least expensive way from Roissy-Charles de Gaulle (CDG) Airport to Paris is by taking the RER B city train leaving from either CDG Terminal 2 or Roissypole (RER trains for CDG Terminal 1 and CDG Terminal 3).

The RER B train line runs north-south through the centre of Paris, stopping at Gare du Nord, the London to Paris Eurostar station, then at Châtelet Les Halles the “super” exchange station with 4 metro lines and 3 RER lines available, then Saint Michel/Nôtre Dame, Luxembourg, Port Royal, Denfert-Rochereau, Cité Universitaire, and continues south towards Orly Airport (requiring a transfer onto the OrlyVal metro at station Antony).

Yeah, we use the RER every time; for the two of us it's still less than half the cost of a taxi. But we don't mind pulling our luggage behind us, and we don't use anything more than a 22" rollaboard size. Though I will confess that the first time we used it (CDG to Versailles) we had 3 suitcases plus carryons. Not as easy that time.

So it works well for us, and we find it incredibly convenient. And last visit (one year ago) we happened to visit during a weekend when it was free, so that was an even better deal - a free ride from CDG to downtown! But certainly understand that a taxi is a more appealing option for others. Not too bad a rate with this deal.

Excellent news! Between strikes on the French railroad system and thieves targeting tourists on the RER from airport to downtown, a flat rate taxi is a good option for many travelers.

It is very true about the pickpockets. A money belt is a must for men and women should have a pack safe purse. Still, if traffic is heavy it can cost as much at 75 Euros.

Also, almost anyone visiting Paris will use the METRO, which exposes one to the same risk.

In light traffic at least 50http://www.worldtaximeter.com/paris/CDG/paris

Great news. Last fall we got stuck in morning traffic and paid and arm and a leg to get to our hotel! No problem going back to the airport, hotel arranged a reasonably-priced shuttle, but that cab coming in was a killer! Next time we would either take the RER or get our hotel to arrange a shuttle for us.

A nice thing about the flat rate is that you avoid a larger fee if the traffic is slow. They don't use the meter for the flat rate.

Yes, I see the new rates are 55 or 50 Euros depending on location. Another option is to take one of the Air France busses to key sites around the city. We took one of those busses when we had to go to our hotel in the SW part of the city.
