HootieTootie Posted April 3, 2016 #1 Share Posted April 3, 2016 We will be doing our first cruise on Holland and are wanting to do the open seating in the MDR and was wondering if gala night was just for the set dinner times? Thanks Donna
CruiserBruce Posted April 3, 2016 #2 Share Posted April 3, 2016 No, gala night is technically ship wide, although not enforced on the Lido Buffet. Gala night applies to open seating.
dakrewser Posted April 3, 2016 #3 Share Posted April 3, 2016 The dress code is ship-wide, the menu is the same in either dining room.
rmmm Posted April 3, 2016 #4 Share Posted April 3, 2016 I always thought of the Lido as the alternative for people who don't want to dress up on Gala Night.
RuthC Posted April 4, 2016 #5 Share Posted April 4, 2016 I always thought of the Lido as the alternative for people who don't want to dress up on Gala Night. With the newer dress code, nobody has to dress up on Gala, or any other, night. It is still described as dressy, but the code doesn't call for that. However, you are right that the Lido is a casual alternative for those who don't want to dress to the smart casual level.

A question about Gala Night . Was wondering if " Gala Night " is the same as "Formal Night " or are they two different events ? Thanks in advance . SilvertoGold Posted April 5, 2016 #8 Share Posted April 5, 2016 (edited) Same, although I am not sure what you mean exactly by "events". It is just about the dress code, which has taken a nose dive almost to non-existence. Dress how you like: tux or jeans. As noted on one of the World Cruise blogs by one of the ADRMs: no bathing suits and make sure you wear shoes. Thanks in advance . Gala night is the replacement for Formal night. Think of it as sartorial cutbacks. Although passengers are told this is an opportunity to "dress to impress" (and many, if not most, still do), the minimum dress code is smart casual.
