NancyIL Posted April 14, 2016 #2 Share Posted April 14, 2016 (edited) Disney "expanded" their prices as well! :D Their 9-night Alaska cruise STARTS at $2,565 + $246.19 taxes per person for an inside cabin! https://disneycruise.disney.go.com/cruises-destinations/list/9-night-alaskan-cruise-from-vancouver/july-24-2017-disney-wonder/ I like Disney cruises, but their per person price is what other cruise lines charge for two people. NancyIL Posted April 14, 2016 #4 Share Posted April 14, 2016 As 9-night Alaska itineraries go - I'm rather partial to this one on Radiance of the Seas: https://secure.royalcaribbean.com/cruises/9NightAlaskaNorthernGlacierCruise-RD09A005?currencyCode=USD&sCruiseType=CO&sDateMin=2017-05-01&sDateMax=2017-05-31&sailDate=05%2F17%2F2017

May is out for us as DH is still working. Once he retires, this itinerary looks like a good cruising choice for us.
jamminlion Posted April 14, 2016 #6 Share Posted April 14, 2016 Yup. Checked also. I can cruise Alaska back to back for the price of 1 Disney cruise week, in a similar category room. Uh, no thank you.
cruisewiththekids Posted April 15, 2016 #7 Share Posted April 15, 2016 I like Disney's 9 nt itinerary. The price is an issue though. Would jump on the Radiance but can't do May or September because of school. I'm not seeing anything else similar on other lines. Am I missing something? Uh, no thank you. I can probably go on 4 late booked Alaska cruises. :)
NancyIL Posted April 15, 2016 #9 Share Posted April 15, 2016 For those folks who don't mind paying Disney's prices for their cruises, you could upgrade to a true luxury line for not a lot more! Crystal Serenity has several 7-night cruises in an oceanview cabin for not much more than DCL's 9-night cruise: http://www.crystalcruise.com/results.do?searchOrigin=refine&d=&d2=&places=A&days=ALL&Month=ALL&dd=ALL&fd=2&c=17&v=ALL&p=ALL&sort_by=
titangas Posted April 17, 2016 #10 Share Posted April 17, 2016 The experience on DCL in my opinion is far superior to the other mainsteam lines. That being said, I still cruise NCL and RCL because of price, but have been on 4 Disney cruises and loved them all. The lack of a casino and casino revenue is one of the biggest reasons they need to charge a higher base fare.

DaKa2002 Posted April 17, 2016 #12 Share Posted April 17, 2016 We have already completed an Alaskan Disney cruise, along with 4 other Alaskan cruises (2 each, Holland America and Celebrity). Will not pay the "extra" again to cruise DCL there. We are looking at several other cruises and cruise lines to return to the Great Land in 2018. That being said, I still cruise NCL and RCL because of price, but have been on 4 Disney cruises and loved them all. The lack of a casino and casino revenue is one of the biggest reasons they need to charge a higher base fare. I have been on 6 Disney cruises (3 4-night Bahamian, 1 7-night western Caribbean, and 2 Transatlantics), and I like DCL a lot. What I like best is the "Disneyness" of their ships - and no other cruise line can give a "Disney experience." However, I haven't found Disney's food or service to be far superior to that of other cruise lines to justify often paying twice as much. When I want a Disney cruise experience, I'll book one of DCL's better values, like a Transatlantic or Panama Canal cruise. Unfortunately, Disney's good, port-intensive itineraries usually cost more than I'm willing to pay.
tree.star Posted April 18, 2016 #14 Share Posted April 18, 2016 I'm a Disney fanatic myself, but wow, those prices are really into the ridiculous range. This year I am going on a 10 day Alaska cruise that is almost half the price per person, for a balcony room! I would really love to go on a Disney cruise but they are sure making it tough to justify. Hmmm, I have never noticed that many people in the casinos on any Alaska cruise - or for as long. But Caribbean and the Med - yes, they always seem to be packed until the "wee" hours. Seems they could be a little more competitive  That is the equivalent of 3 cruises for me!
titangas Posted April 18, 2016 #16 Share Posted April 18, 2016 (edited) Hmmm, I have never noticed that many people in the casinos on any Alaska cruise - or for as long. But Caribbean and the Med - yes, they always seem to be packed until the "wee" hours. Seems they could be a little more competitive  That is the equivalent of 3 cruises for me! Probably true! I was just referring in general. When Disney first entered the cruise industry the decision to not have casinos on board put them at a big disadvantage in onboard revenue, add in some of the things they do not charge for, and it is apparent they are paying some higher salaries in some areas (not all) all contribute to the higher cost. Do I think it is worth it? Not really and it is why I have not cruised them in since 2008. But if money was absolutely no object, I would definitely cruise them over and over. I will disagree with Nancy - I found the food and service on Disney far superior to NCL, RCCL, Carnival and still better than Celebrity. I am sure as long as people pay it will stay, if they are not filling the ship price will go down. I cruised Disney in 2002, 2004, 2006 and 2008. Back then when rates came out that would be the lowest you would ever see them and they steadily went up until the sailing and they were always sailing full. Not sure about nowadays as every time I check prices I just move right along. Edited April 18, 2016 by titangas
