KroozFoolz Posted April 21, 2016 #26 Share Posted April 21, 2016 (edited) We were also on this just completed sailing on Serenade and had a wonderful time! Love the Radiance class ships! We had a hump balcony on the port side (centrum elevator side) and loved, loved, loved it. Music from the centrum didn't bother us or keep us from going to sleep. We did try to avoid the area around the casino because of the smoke but it wasn't any worse than what we have experienced on other ships. The centrum elevators were a problem the whole cruise, and I recall the same from our cruises on Radiance and Brilliance. DH must use the elevators due to his limited mobility, but when I was navigating the ship by myself, I used the stairs - love looking at the artwork between decks. Enjoyed the entertainment and thought Carly B and her staff did a nice job. Booked two future cruises while on board, including one on another Radiance class ship, and the other on a Vision class - we like the smaller ships. cruisingbajan Posted April 21, 2016 #27 Share Posted April 21, 2016 HI Keith, We posted re Barbados on the meet and mingle for the cruise - I started this thread. I second everything everyone has said. Smoke drifted from casino to Vintages, Schooner lounge, Centrum. My stateroom was on deck 10 and I could still catch an occasional odor. Even in the smoking section on deck the smoke drifted elsewhere. Also saw people using e-cigs in nonsmoking areas. If I had a serious allergy or sensitivity, I would avoid the Serenade. Yes...I do remember you from the thread (you stayed at the AI on the west coast right?) Thanks for posting and glad to hear that you enjoyed the cruise in general. I am very sensitive to smoke in general and would not enjoy a cruise where I have to battle with copious amounts of cigarette smoke/smell.:(
J&Bcruisers Posted April 22, 2016 #28 Share Posted April 22, 2016 We were on this cruise also, and at first did not smell the smoke, we were not in the areas near the casino or deck five where you can smoke on the starboard side. When we did try to view the events in the Centrum, the smell of smoke was so overpowering outside the casino on deck 6 and 5, we had to relocate our seating, only to have the smell of smoke coming in from the outside deck 5. Agree with Grandma Dazzles, there were smokers in many non smoking areas. The over crowding near the Centrum and the smoke problem was the worst we have experienced and we are Diamond members. Overall we had a great cruise, but unfortunately we did miss out on a few events in the centum due to overcrowded areas or smoke smell.
MCC retired Posted May 23, 2016 #29 Share Posted May 23, 2016 (edited) Just off of the Serenade yesterday . What people are posting about smoke from the casino and late noise from the Centrum entertainment is true . The Centrum set up for entertainment there is a horrible , especially at times other rooms just play recorded music . The internet is hit or miss at times and a feature oversold by RCI . We and some others ,that we spoke to ,found hot water for showers hit or miss also . Edited May 23, 2016 by MCC retired

I just finished writing the nasty email to RC over their over promising in that respect. Sorry to hear about the hot water. It was all good for me for the last week - which I am so glad about (what with we being in cold ports and me having a cold, hot water was a must!). JTBCruiser Posted May 25, 2016 #31 Share Posted May 25, 2016 Tell me some more about this cigarette smoke please. We are booked on the Serenade next year and I am very sensitive to cigarette smoke...is it prevalent in any other public spaces:( We are on the same cruise with you in April. I saw similar reviews before we sailed on the Serenade out of New Orleans. I too am very allergic to smoke but I did not have any issues with it. Yes the casino was filled with smoke and yes we did have to navigate through it to get to another location. Yes they do put on shows in the Centrum but DW and I could care less about them, they weren't that long and it wasn't worth standing in line to watch. The shows in the theater met our expectations. I guess there is a chance it has gotten worse since we sailed but I'm willing to give it another shot.

I would hate for it to negatively impact my experience Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk
Rare island lady Posted May 25, 2016 #33 Share Posted May 25, 2016 (edited) Your comments are consistent with our feelings as well. The smoke is an ongoing problem, one I can't see them fixing in the near future as it would mean a major overhaul to the ventilation system. It's a shame, really. The indoor smoking is such a problem. I am more and more convinced that we need to make the permanent move to Celebrity. :o I agree. I just don't understand why they don't install doors that open and close automatically at both entrances to the casino. Cheap fix to keep the smoke in there where it belongs. At least the smoke in there helps me save money by avoiding the casino. ;) Edited May 25, 2016 by island lady
