Balcony Smokers on Allure

Recommended Posts

No, that post was directed at only one person only and it again amazes me what other can come with to counter posts on passengers' action that not only are against the ship's rules but are dangerous, harmful and inconsiderate to others but then again with smoking we are dealing with an addiction aren't we.

IMO, that post was really more of an attack to ridicule the OP than an opinion. Mine was just a bit of pay back. ;)

So what did the residents of LA ever do to warrant your ridicule. Ohhh.... I get it it, it's Ok to post incredulous things when you feel payback is warranted. Got it.

PS - not an LA resident or smoker, but the notion that we should treat folks who break a rule that was instituted little over a year ago the same as those who commit violent act (put off at the next port of call) or that smokers should be exiled under the flimsy pretends of the health hazard of second hand smoke or a minuscule safety risk just seems completely out of place in a society that has accepted drug use, LGBT, and the notion that only some lives matter.

Of course smoking is a health hazard, but so is obesity and every on here frequents ships that give you all you can eat.

Smoking is allowed in the Casino. Smoking is not allowed on balcony's.. Is that hard to figure out? Irons are not allowed, Rum is not allowed. There are consequences for not following Royal's stated rules. Celebrity has been known for putting people off the ship after 2 x $250 "cleaning fees" when they first implemented the no smoking on balcony's or any interior areas on the ships including the casinos. Either there are policy's in place or not.

The two smokers we reported did not even bother to play dumb, they knew the policy but gave us the finger. Sorry - we call Security.

Is it just the smoking policy that you feel the need to help the cruise line enforce, or are their other policies? Do you call security on lounge chair hogs, children in the Solarium, diapers in the pool, bare feet in the Windjammer? Or do you just focus on the smoking policy?

And somehow that makes the person reporting the issue feel like their vacation was much more enjoyable. Seriously, they just get pleasure out of imposing their views on others. I personally have never met a smoker who, when asked politely in the casino, if they would mind not smoking while I'm there because of allergies that have refused to stop. Some of you just want to bully others and don't even attempt to be civil. I have more reaction to the sickening smell of the perfume many use rather than shower. Getting into elevators with these people I often hold my breath but I would never dream of being so rude as to tell them they need to shower rather than cover up their offensive odor with an inordinate amount of cheap perfume.

duplicate = sorry

Why deal with it on a formal level by picking up the phone? Why not just politely ask your neighbor if he/she would refrain from smoking while you are out on the balcony?

I had a situation back in 2014 while I was sailing on the Oasis. I went out on the balcony around 10 pm on the first night. My neighbor must have heard my door slide open. A minute or two after I sat down, he poked his head around the partition and asked me if I minded if he lit up a cigar. I said, no problem, enjoy yourself.

I guess the point I am trying to make is most times dealing with people on a one to one basis goes a long way.

How refreshing:)

I focus on the policy that impacts my cruise. I think I am in for a rude awakening on our first Royal cruise. I am used to pool butlers enforcing the chair hog rules , children in the solarium and I would yell very loud if there were diapers in the pool or hot tub. What is the Windjammer? Do you just let all this slide? Am I going to see all this stuff?

So someone smoking on their balcony while you are not out on yours impacts you're cruise?

I don't use the pools, so they could make Jello in them and it wouldn't bother me. Children in the Solarium don't bother me unless they are running around screaming. If they are being supervised and behaving, it's fine with me even though it is a policy violation.

The Windjammer is the buffet.

Enjoy, or maybe good luck is better

My question was why not just ask them face to face from smoking rather than picking up the phone? I would think that 99.9% of the passengers would be very accommodating and not light up. Some loyal Royal Caribbean sailors that haven't cruised in a while might not even be aware of the policy change.

I tried the direct face to face approach telling the person who was smoking at the balcony railing one cabin over and one deck below our balcony on Anthem this past winter that the smoke was coming onto our balcony and bothering us and that smoking wasn't allowed on cabin balconies.

The response from her was she had had a stressful day while in port, which we were still in so there was no wind to disperse her smoke and it had been crowded and time consuming to get back on the ship. She needed a cigarette right away and was going to ### #### smoke on HER balcony along with what she thought of my request.

I see in Gambee's Oasis review currently on this board that he had such an accommodating smoker beside him and his elderly mother onboard.

I doubt the 0.1% is anywhere close as a % of those who wouldn't be considerate to such a request. All one has to do is read what most smokers have to say in this thread.

I never said it was foolproof......lol. But I do believe that most people would be accommodating with the request if you told them it was bothering you. Nothings perfect.

and the policy is no smoking on a balcony, so why do I need to compromise at all on this?

based on reading some of the smoking threads from the past, this surely didn't seem to be the case when smoking was allowed on one's balcony. seems to me the non-smokers didn't care in the slightest about the smoker's rights.

Second, does it really bother you to see people smoking because of breaking rules or are you just annoyed you have not managed to completely control others with your made up smoke is making me sick bull? It is amazing how it is politically correct to exaggerate smoking issues outside yet other immoral things are so tolerated. All you anti-smoking tyrants must realize cramming all the smokers into one area of the ship, with little or no cross wind makes that particular area smell much worse. You STILL complain incessantly about that when walking past the location. Some of you even allow your children to pretend to gag and cough as they walk down the smoking side of the casino. Face it, you are NOT going to have it your way everywhere. You really should worry about what YOU are doing rather than reporting on someone else's behavior which has NO EFFECT on you.

Your ignorance on what effect smoking has on people is amazing. I wish I was making this up and that smoking had no effect on me. However, I am finally down to eight meds a day to control my breathing and I am off oxygen.. Smoking near me could actually cause me great harm and reverse the improvements I have made over the last 4 months. So, unfortunately, I do have to worry about others behavior because it does impact me.

I do not complain about smokers rights to smoke in designated areas. I do not go through or near those areas. I am not going to comment or condone others for their choices. Please just follow the rules and don't smoke on the balcony. It is actually very simple.

Wait. You lost me. So two cruisers are on their balcony smoking, you spot them and they just out right blatantly flipped you off? What sparked that?

Details please.

Guest services has a list of smoking complaints from neighboring balconies and they will fine you for the first offense, second offense off the ship. Ships should not sell cigarettes and any bought on board should be confiscated by security at check in.

haha....while that may be the written rule it's no where close to being accurate in real life. and someone can complain all they want but without catching the culprit in the act there is zero any cruise can or will do about it.

cigarettes bought on board should be confiscated.......hahahahahahahaha

Probably. If you're lucky you'll catch 5 smokers on the ship across from you and maybe even some hank lanky. Unlike X, RCI does not furnish binoculars, so keep your camera ready.

What a non-answer; are you running for a political office?

Smoking was allowed, so non-smokers had to accept it. Smokers did not need to compromise. They could puff away on their balcony all day long and if a non-smoker was displaced, oh well.

But now the rules have changed and smoking is not allowed on the balcony. So why does a non-smoker need to compromise on that? They don't.

For the smokers in the thread; if you are so amenable to stopping when caught in the act, what difference does it make if it is your neighbor who asks you or if it is Royal's guest services or security that asks you to stop? I mean, you're going to stop when asked to so I don't understand why you take offense to ships personnel asking but not your neighbor?

To which I suggest, if you are astute take down notes. If you have the time, hold your applause to the end

Omg. I hope it was an upgrade! I would be livid if I had to move cabins because someone next to me was breaking the rules. That's something to get riled up about.

This is exactly what I was thinking

Because this is a forum, and I'm participating in it, so I can comment on whatever I choose. I'm waiting for someone to tell me why I have to compromise on paying for a smoke free balcony.

This is not "real world". This is an internet discussion forum about cruising. I don't walk around the supermarket, gas station, clothing store, etc., questioning people or telling them what to do. if it doesn't impact me, there's nothing to say.

there is nothing in writing in rccl's literature stating you will have a smoke free balcony. it state smoking is unauthorized on balconies. smoke could waft in from authorized smoking areas so you can still have smoke on your balcony without anyone breaking a rule.
