Pros and Cons of Getting a TA

I've never used a travel agent before, (always booked online or through a cruise line rep), but I've read that you can get perks like onboard credit, free specialty dining, etc. Does anyone have any advice on where to find a good one? Also, what sort of fees do they charge, and do the perks outweigh the fees? I've already booked my cruise, but haven't paid in full yet. I read somewhere that I can switch to a TA anytime before full payment is made, but please correct me if I'm wrong.

It will also vary according to where you are.
