Is the noise level really that bad???

I've been reading various reviews of the Escape and many cruisers complained the ship is very noisy. They said the shows in the theater were ear-splitting and the music venues and such were just too loud to enjoy. Can anyone tell me their recent experiences on the Escape.

My only experience with NCL was on the Spirit last year and I didn't find that ship noisy at all. I'm considering a cruise on the Escape, but will pass it up for another ship if indeed that ship is known for being really noisy...

We've been on her twice. No noise issues that I'm aware of, except, from what I've heard on board for the cabins just above the 5 Nowhere bar, and District Brew House. Both have entertainers that play until late at night. Other than that, which we haven't experienced, we haven't noticed anything being louder than any other ship.

I think the complaints the OP is referring to are about how loud the deck parties and H2O music is ... while they don't affect you in cabins, etc., many people have said it was much too loud for them to enjoy the dancing, etc.

Thanks! I have a cabin sandwiched between decks of cabins so I know noise won't be an issue.

I guess if the sound system at the various entertainment venues is too loud, I politely retire to my balcony and read....

We've only been to one event up there at night. It's hard to get us out of the casino in the evenings. It didn't seem any louder than the Epic, Breakaway or Getaway, all of which we've been on. But, some folks are more sensitive to loud music. Maybe we've been to way too many concerts.

Even the music during dinner being too loud to talk over in the Manhattan room has been reported so mention it if it seems too loud in any venue, with enough feedback maybe they will change it.

The Skyline Bar (next to the casino that we spend a lot of time in too!) can get pretty loud at night. DJ and dancing....no problem to us in the casino though;)

We had a balcony room on the 13th floor right above the outdoor 5 o'clock somewhere bar.....that was noisy. Bar stayed open until 12:30am. Easy fix was shutting balcony door, but had I known, would have chosen a different room.

I like loud music but ... as I've gotten older I've noticed I get irritated easier with loud music or PA systems. And, this as my hearing is becoming less acute. Doesn't make sense, but it is common. There is a unfortunate side-effect of sensorineural hearing loss called "hypersensitive hearing":

As a you grow older, the number of hair cells and nerve fibres that are responsible for picking up sounds in the inner ear is reduced. The ability to grade different intensities of sound is also impaired. To compensate for this, you will often "switch on" all remaining nerve fibres to produce almost maximum loudness. As a result, even quite moderate sounds may seem to be unbearably loud.

So, if you are under 40-something and hear a person in his late 50's and older complain about the volume, even though he says he goes to a lot of concerts, it may be that he is in the early stages of "hypersensitive hearing".

One more vote for using deck plans

I absolutely hate that the casino bar is by live music and a dance floor. It is so loud you cannot think. People congregate around the bar who are not paying video poker (my game of choice) and the later it gets the louder they get. If I go play video poker in the other part of the casino it is smoking.

Oh by the way, I love the Escape. We will be on her in 11 days for the 3rd time so I must not hate it too much!

5 o'clock Somewhere Bar is on Deck 8 and you were on Deck 13.

Really now, and you heard it? Music is from inside the bar, and the Waterfront is more a place of quiet to grab a drink and conversation.

Are you sure that is where it came from?

The GLOW party was so loud on our Escape cruise, we only made it about 10 minutes. My brother said it was even louder than any Metallica concert he attended.

This! We didn't even get all the way into the venue when we turned around and left. We could hear it at the other end of the ship Forward.

The main pool deck on sea days is the same way. If they turn the music down, the guy on the mic doesn't need to scream to be heard.

The 80s party was okay, not sure who adjusted the volumes for the Glow party though.

Not really, I'm 53 and go to a lot of concerts still. Just went to Pearl Jam Friday night. Anyway the music level on the Escape at times was just too loud. I was not the only person who thought it was at the time. If that is your thing fine, I'll just keep moving

I'm on right now and it is fairly loud but that all depends on how sensitive you are to it. We're quiet cruisers so we pretty much avoid all loud events to begin with. Game show in the atrium? We'll be on the Waterfront. Party in Spice? Late dinner it is. We got Vibe Beach Club passes and could only hear the dull roar of the loud pool deck. Silas the cruise director doesn't make nearly as many announcements as I thought he would, and most of them don't even play in your room - just in public areas. Carnival seemed to bombard us with "the voice in the ceiling" on our last cruise.

I agree. The pool deck was really loud, but we had Vibe passes which certainly impacted our perception. I loved the volume at GLOW, but it was a known loud event. I expected it and got it!. And, I hope you're feeling better.......

The first day, the sun/pool deck wasn't crowded at all and we initially felt that we wasted the money on Vibe. THEN the crowds came out and we were assured that it was money well spent! And thank you very much!

We were on last week. We didn't do the parties, but the shows were rather loud. Especially the Brat Pack show. Not loud enough to drive us out, but my ears were ringing for a solid 30 hour after, like if I'd attended a concert.

I was impressed that the announcements weren't in the room. Sometimes it was a pain because I'd have to open the door of my room to hear what was going on (especially when we were getting into a port), but overall I didn't find noise to be a big problem.
