Rare steveknj Posted May 19, 2016 #26 Share Posted May 19, 2016 We're on the 15 July curise, which is about a month out from the drydock. So by the time we cruise, the kinks should be out of anything new :) It will be fun cruising on a new "old" ship :)
SherriM Posted May 19, 2016 #27 Share Posted May 19, 2016 New to NCL. Considering a cruise out of NOL 2/2017. Looks like Dawn will be refreshed by then. Is complimentary room service available? How comfortable are the couches in the balcony rooms? Thank you!
megansdad1 Posted May 20, 2016 #28 Share Posted May 20, 2016 I hope that someone who will be on one of the post dry dock cruises will post a video of the NEW Dawn. I will be on the Dawn the following week and I will be sure to post a full review with videos and pictures.
JCMass. Posted May 20, 2016 #29 Share Posted May 20, 2016 We are on the June 17 cruise. Does anyone have a web address for the webcam so we can see the ship in drydock. We have been o the Dawn several times and are looking forward to the next cruise. We have an active Roll Call for this cruise, you may want to join in. Here is the webcam. http://www.***********/cruise-ship-webcams/norwegian-cruise-line/norwegian-dawn.php
Rare BirdTravels Posted May 20, 2016 #30 Share Posted May 20, 2016 New to NCL. Considering a cruise out of NOL 2/2017. Looks like Dawn will be refreshed by then. Is complimentary room service available? How comfortable are the couches in the balcony rooms? Thank you! You can get a continental breakfast delivered for free. All other room service incurs a $7.95 delivery charge per order. Wrt the sofa,,, Well,,, given the ship is going through a dry dock, won't know what got replaced and how comfortable it is until that is done. dexddd Posted May 20, 2016 #31 Share Posted May 20, 2016  I just got a knot in the pit of my stomach. Are we going to be on a construction cruise???? Hi GR -- see you are under 30 days and your birthday will be coming up soon. The Dawn drydock is a long one but based solely on all the past, recent drydocks, my guess some work will be going on. Pathubia mentioned in a different thread they were tearing all the suites down to the wall panels which would mean a lot of work. Pathubia - please correct if I interpreted that incorrectly. phoenix1181 Posted May 20, 2016 #32 Share Posted May 20, 2016 We're on the June 17th cruise as well & I'm concerned. We were originally on the cancelled June 10th cruise to celebrate a 50th anniversary on the 11th. When that was cancelled, the anniversary couple chose the 17th...... I would have given them a few weeks to finish up but the choice was theirs & they changed their reservation before telling us. They're new cruisers and I didn't have the heart to tell them we'll probably still have work going on. Fingers crossed that the work that's left won't be too disruptive! pathubia Posted May 20, 2016 #33 Share Posted May 20, 2016 I don't think that anyone should be worried about a "construction" cruise. They were sanding the murals on deck 7 or 6, now I am not so sure, lol. I am not exactly sure what is being done, everyone I spoke with said something different!! The rugs are being replaced, the mattresses, the lavazza coffee makers, the walls painted. Hoping that the window in the DOS will be replaced, they tend to fog up. (we will probably never get lucky enough to get in there again). The entertainment staff was disembarking, the rest of the crew are going to be working on the refurb with the contractors. I was surprised that our suite was cleaned and made up when we were getting off the ship, I thought that the work was going to begin right away, but our concierge said that the company big wigs would be staying in the suites to oversee the work being done. vivalv66 Posted May 20, 2016 #34 Share Posted May 20, 2016 We just got off the last cruise also. I think you will all love it! All 13 of my group thought it was great and it hadn't been refurbed! They are taking away the Blue Lagoon. Not sure what they are replacing it with as it was the 24hr restaurant. They are fixing the seating in the Stardust theater. It was really bad. Seats are very uncomfortable. The Band told us it is a 70 million dollar refurb and that is a record! I can't wait to see what it looks like and what people say about it. gamblinrose Posted May 20, 2016 #35 Share Posted May 20, 2016 Hi GR -- see you are under 30 days Hey Dex! Always good to hear from you! My fingers are crossed that they'll be able to get everything done in time. As long as the beer is cold, I'll be fine. Looks like your next trip is to Pappete and Tahiti? Your kids will definitely be expanding their cultural horizons! Pathubia - thanks for your info. And you never know, lightning could strike twice to get you back in the DOS. Thanks to you I may even give the upsell fairy a call...

Thanks to you I may even give the upsell fairy a call... Definitely give them a call, the worst they can say is no!! Our upsell for the DOS was $1000 total above what we paid for the balcony. I don't regret it at all!! The service was incredible!! We are in a family suite with no balcony for our next cruise, all of the suites are sold out!! Or very close to it, I don't think there will be any upselling for that one. :( But that's ok. Its just my husband and I in the suite.
SherriM Posted May 20, 2016 #37 Share Posted May 20, 2016 Thanks for ALL the information. We went ahead and pulled the trigger and booked a mid-ship Balcony room for our 40th wedding anniversary 2/17. Booked through NCL website. And took advantage of the two freebies. (Drinks and Dining) Have never gone NCL so we are curious how this will compare to HA. Cannot wait to hear MORE about the refurbishments!!! They loved the snorkeling and the kids club activities that took place on the islands and the seas of which there were only the two of them, one other kid, and the two naturalists. Us parents were able to go on many of the activities with them for low or no cost which was great. We did that trip the summer after we were on the Dawn with you. We are actually thinking of maybe doing the Bermuda run on the Dawn again next summer but it would probably be August.

blondie1746 Posted May 21, 2016 #41 Share Posted May 21, 2016 We disembarked yesterday after the 10 day cruise and we are booked for October 21, I cant wait to see the changes!! They covered sections of the promenade deck with plywood and had begun to sand the murals. We were in the DOS and the only complaint we had was that the windows tended to get foggy. (oh ya, one of the closet doors felt like it was off the runner). Pathubia, how did you like the DOS? We are considering this or the OS w/2 balconies. Haven't been on a ship with a Haven in a long time. Worried we might miss it. Also which DOS were you in? The layouts seems strange. Bedroom is a ways from the bathroom. Did you miss having a balcony? What about the rest of the Dawn? Entertainment? Food? Staff? Thanks for any info!

Food? Staff? Thanks for any info! I haven't been in an OS w/2 balconies, buy I met a couple at breakfast that loved it!! We were in 12500, it has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. It was great!! The master bath had a jacuzzi bathtub with a flat screen TV above it! Being on deck 12 (pool deck) we didn't miss the balcony at all. We had a big balcony on our January 2015 cruise and probably spent about 10 minutes out there. Our butler Dominic was terrific, wrote down my requests. Brought us what I asked for. If not the same day, then the next day. I went to all of the shows except Second City (not a fan of improv) and I missed the Whitney Houston Tribute. The cruise director Richard is very personable and funny. Hanno is the concierge and he was able to rearrange dinners for us. I have never cruised a ship with a Haven, so I can't compare. Food? Staff? Thanks for any info! Here is what I posted on another thread: It sounds like you are asking about choosing between the DOS on 12 vs. the OS w/2 balconies on 9 and 10 forward? If so, I'd say it depends. We did the Star in one of the outer DOS but that was to Alaska so having no balcony wasn't a big deal. We also went on the Dawn in a deck 10 OS to Bermuda which has the front and side balcony. The rooms on 12 were added a few years ago so everything was new and modern. The room on 10 was a bit worn but maybe after the current drydock they will spruce them up - it looks like they did for the Star OS.
