Smoking ?

Recommended Posts

We have always cruised Disney with no casino and only smoking outside in a few spots. As non smokers and with major smoke allergies we enjoy not having the inside of the boat smell of smoke. Someone to,d me on RC the casino is full of smoke. Is this true and if that is fine if we can get p,aces with walking through/ near the casino and if the smell doesn't carry elsewhere on the boat

Anyone on the allure that can comment? Thanks!

Allure casino is half smoking....but it does carry over into surrounding areas. Only other locations are two sections on decks 15 and 16 port side.

I'm a smoker (unfortunately) and late into the evening I even found the casino smokey. I will say that our family would sometimes meet us there before dinner and they felt it wasn't overly smokey and they're all non smokers, so I guess it depends on time of day. And of course an individual's tolerance/sensitivity to it. If you are sensitive I would avoid the casino if possible

It's too bad that they allow smoking in any indoor venue. I don't think a ventilation system exists that can effectively contain it. On the Radiance last summer, I don't know which was worse, the poorly contained smoke, or the fragrance they tried to mask it with.

Thanks everyone for the response. I see my post had some typos ( darn phone) I ment to say are we able to get places by avoiding the casino if it is smokey. ( which it seems as if it is) we are not huge gamblers, or I should say I think on our cruise we will be so busy doing other things!

By no means did I mean to stir up an allergy debate. I call it allergies, some might call it irritation, regardless would perfer to avoid the misery it brings by avoiding the smoking areas as much as possible for both. E and my 8 year old.

As a side bar, I am from WA state where smoking is banned from all indoor venues so it could also be given we are just not exposed to smoke very often when we are our "allergies " or " irritants" act up more.

Thanks again!

Unfortunately smoking is allowed in the casinos! In June, I was on the Carnival Conquest,

I was at the aft of the ship and started walking forward and started smelling the casino

immediately. When I arrived at the casino there was a cloud of smoke and the casino bar was full of smokers. Unbelievable! We just avoided the casino and that deck and had a great cruise! As a bonus, we didn't lose any money in the casino!

Maybe not on board a ship, but there most certainly are systems that can and do contain it. Most of the newer properties in Vegas have great air handling systems. People can be smoking at the next table and you likely won't even know.

The casino is the only indoor smoking area on most ships. As you can imagine, it is VERY smoky. Further, many who are in the casino are there only to smoke and are not using the machines/table games. Often there will be small groups congregating by and sitting on the chairs by the machines. It is frustrating NOT to be able to use a particular slot machine because there is a group sitting around it - and not using it.

Some casinos have a small non smoking area, but the signage is poor and many will smoke in the non smoking areas. There are few casino staff so the smokers are rarely told they are in the non smoking areas. (I never say anything but do try to find a casino staff). Also- because the casino is small and the ventilation is poor, the smoke really carries throughout.

good luck

The cigarette smoke is my number one complaint about my recent first cruise on the Freedom. Often it was hard to find a place to sit and relax on and outside deck and the fact that an entire half of those places were full of cigarette smoke and stink seemed a bit much to me. Are there really that many smokers on a cruise?

Got to agree with this

just got off Indy and the smell of the masking fragrance turned my stomach when it was in full masking mode :-(

I guess thats a problem with having only a few smoking designated areas is that you get the majority of smokers in them small areas which then creates more smoke clouds. Must be hard to try and accommodate everybody

I agree 100%. I understand that smoking is unhealthy and people who choose to not kill themselves slowly should not be subjected to it. But I just got of the allure and they really have limited our options in comparison to my last cruise on the oasis 5 years ago. This was my first cruise not being able to smoke on our balcony so it was odd for us. We spent much more time at the casino bar then we normally do. And in reality the 2 sections on the pool deck are rather small so it was constantly filled with smokers. The only two things that benefited us with this type of restrictions is we really got to know a handful of other smokers since we were in a smaller area (literally, shoulder to shoulder in the casino bar late at night lol) and we definitely smoked less then any other cruise.

There isn't a perfect solution, but I also tend to feel that non smokers will complain until it's fully banned. Believe me, I get that it's gross-but you guys got the balconies already....leave the small sections we have left alone please :)

Not just that, but there is NOTHING enclosing the smokers (like those little rooms that some airports used to have), so while theoretically there is a "non-smoking" area, imagine the way restaurants used to be where there was no definitive (as in a closed door) separation between the two.

If you think it's bad on RCCL, avoid HAL at all costs. They still allow smoking on the balconies as well as numerous outside places.

Here's an idea. The cruise companies could make a percentage of their ships open smoking. Allow smoking in all areas, indoor and out. Than make the rest of their fleet fully non-smoking. This way there'd be no complaints from smokers or non-smokers.

I am a rabid non smoker and I agree with both statements. I feel as adults we are entitled to make bad decisions if we so choose. I won't complain until it is banned, because at least in the US 20% adults still smoke. As a non smoker it is my job to avoid where the smokers are and allow them their space. I find the overflow smoke bad only on windless days in port and on the promenade in those classes that have the stairwells that come up directly from the casino. Since I don't gamble (might if I could breathe, but not gambling is not a deal breaker) casino smoke is not an issue for me. I also think they should expand smoking areas to include an enclosed bar space in every ship, such as a cigar lounge.

Except if I want to book on that "smoking ship" for the ship or the itinerary. I do not smoke, I do not want to be near smoke. Smokers do not want to book on a non-smoking ship. In theory, you'd think your idea would work but it absolutely wouldn't. :(

We were just on the Allure. The smoking areas were on the port side pool deck and in the casino.

My husband IS allergic to cigarette smoke and he did fine. We just made sure we avoided those areas.

If you are going to Studio B or the comedy place, just make sure that you use the forward stairs, otherwise you have to cut through the casino and it is FULL of smoke.

We never noticed it on the Royal Promenade or the other places that we spent time at.

I don't smoke and when I was on freedom last year I never noticed smoke anywhere and thought that the casino was very well ventilated! I guess some people are more sensitive than others but I didn't see any reason to complain about smoke at any point (pool deck, balcony, even casino).

Sorry, I guess I should say only some non-smokers will keep complaining-just as some smokers will keep being rude and smoke where they shouldn't. I didn't mean to encompass all non-smokers. Last week I met quite possibly the rudest man ever and he only got more rude the more he drank. On top of that, he sat there and bragged about how he still smoked on his balcony because there's a small little sign on the door that still says "Please extinguish cigarettes" or something to that affect. Thankfully, the rest of smokers that we were around didn't agree with what he was doing, so at least he seemed to be the minority. But that one idiot (I'm sure there were more-he was just loud about it) gives rule a bidding, considerate smokers a bad name.

I appreciate your comment and I agree, it would be nice to have a good enclosed bar for us stinky people that hopefully still has good ventilation. That would definitely alleviate the crowds in the casino and hopefully avoid people blocking machines just to smoke. I'm not going to hold my breath on it though.....and I smoke so that would be hard anyway :) bad joke, I know!
