paulista1950 Posted June 1, 2016 #1 Share Posted June 1, 2016 It has been a long time since I read complains/jokes/criticisms about it. Will I still find it in my cabin at boarding day?
Rare BlueRiband Posted June 1, 2016 #2 Share Posted June 1, 2016 Not unless it's restocked. I'm sure all of the supply on board was needed to strip the hull. ;)
Underwatr Posted June 1, 2016 #3 Share Posted June 1, 2016 (edited) As of last December, yes. We've been given a full bottle each time since our second cruise. Here's wishing you a magnum! ;) Edited June 1, 2016 by Underwatr
Salacia Posted June 1, 2016 #4 Share Posted June 1, 2016 (edited) Rumour has it that several cases remain to clear the ballast after dry dock. Unless the refit is behind schedule, and then certain engineers and designers will be served Pol Acker as an incentive to complete the job and disembark.;) Edited June 1, 2016 by Salacia
Rare babs135 Posted June 1, 2016 #5 Share Posted June 1, 2016 I'm just so delighted, excited and feeling privileged every time I'm able to sail with Cunard that I don't care that the 'paint stripper' is offered to me and guess what - DH and I have even been known to drink it
cruiseluvva Posted June 1, 2016 #6 Share Posted June 1, 2016 (edited) Yes, it was in our cabin a couple of weeks ago - and horror of horrors, was being used to make Kir Royales in the Grill's Lounge! Edited June 1, 2016 by cruiseluvva
majortom10 Posted June 1, 2016 #7 Share Posted June 1, 2016 If you think Pol Acker is awful enter a quiz whilst onboard and if you are lucky you wont win. If you are unfortunate to win wait until you have tasted the "sparkling wine" imitation that they give you and you will think Pol Acker is nectar.:):):)
paulista1950 Posted June 1, 2016 Author #8 Share Posted June 1, 2016 I'm glad to know they are keeping the tradition alive, and so are we, joking about it! ;)
Adammara Posted June 1, 2016 #9 Share Posted June 1, 2016 Looking forward to trying it in September! Can't be any worse than some of the 'wine' or was it industrial alcohol we have had on shore excursions! Must remember to comment on my review! DDBINK1 Posted June 2, 2016 #10 Share Posted June 2, 2016 I live in Nashville Tennessee USA, I went to a Liquor Store recently (that is where we buy spirits in TN) and as I entered the store, there sat a huge pile of cases of Pol Acker. I stopped, stared, thought a moment and then grabbed 3 bottles. I do have three bathrooms to clean after all and the price of $ 2.99 a bottle was less than bleach spray. How could I resist. It has been a while since my last Cunard Adventure and this helped build my anticipation for another trip.:eek:

sennen Posted June 2, 2016 #13 Share Posted June 2, 2016 I have never tasted anything so vile why do they use it, do they not have anyone taste it.
Happyboating Posted June 2, 2016 #14 Share Posted June 2, 2016 My aunt & uncle love it - they keep asking us when we're going on our next cruise knowing that we'll bring ours home for them. We did try it once but didn't like it ourselves - not even with orange juice!
BigMac1953 Posted June 2, 2016 #15 Share Posted June 2, 2016 Last November, on board QV, I noticed two stewards preparing for the CWC reception in the Queens Room, trundling along a trolley with about 20 cases of Italian Spumante. I wonder if they are decanting the Spumante into old Pol Acker bottles?

Will I still find it in my cabin at boarding day? Remember the first "Alien" film that came out years ago? The part where they tried to surgically remove the "face hugger" off John Hurt's face? That's where the Alien's blood ate through nearly every level on the starship....Now Imagine spilling a bottle of Pol Acker in your stateroom. Not pretty is it? resistk Posted June 9, 2016 #24 Share Posted June 9, 2016 Pol Acker is terrible but I can say that I used my Diamond Cunard status to get a Black Card loyalty match on MSC and they give out free big bottles of Martini and Rossi Proseco which is quite drinkable. If MSC can give out the good stuff, why can't Cunard?
Winchester Ranger Posted June 9, 2016 #25 Share Posted June 9, 2016 There's a reason they serve it with a bucket. Cunard really should pay attention and provide guests with a bottle of complimentary water - well hydrated passengers make much more sense than ill ones.
