shrimp56 Posted June 5, 2016 #26 Share Posted June 5, 2016 If you meant who, I think it is (maybe was) Captain Yannis Berdos. My bad. WHO indeed ;)
SheriffJoe Posted June 5, 2016 #27 Share Posted June 5, 2016 Why do so many here keep posting about the "pilot" The pilot did not have nor EVER has control of a vessel, he is there to advise the Master and bears no responsibility for this, its ALL on the Captain, its his ship, his responsibility under HIS CONTROL at all times, including and especially when docking. Rare uktog Posted June 5, 2016 #28 Share Posted June 5, 2016 Regardless of who and who was not in charge, communication best practice is a triage system based on need to know and availability of appropriate information. The general public is like the man who got the scratch when glass was flying, far down the list of priorities. You also choose the best method to transport, in this case the information. Much as some on these boards might expect medivac equivalent bottom line the Twitter, Facebook bus is the quickest and reaches the most people. The website is slower, seem by far less etc etc.

Wiltonian Posted June 5, 2016 #30 Share Posted June 5, 2016 It is an accident that could have been avoided. Unlike parking lot accidents, this accident caused millions of dollars of damage to the Ketchikan port facilities So, to scale it from a ship (say $1bn) to a car, it's the equivalent of around $1000 damage to a car - the replacement of a fender/bumper and painting to match colour, if you're very lucky. The damage was caused by the mass of the ship, not its speed, and I doubt if the glasses in the bars even 'tinkled". Press Conferences and the like would be a gross over-reaction. No news of the slightest injury to anyone - and there would have been news by now if it had happened. Stuart
Banjo Posted June 5, 2016 #31 Share Posted June 5, 2016 Any news on future Infinity cruises? Looks like the ship will need some time in the dry dock for repairs.
love2driveinct Posted June 5, 2016 #32 Share Posted June 5, 2016 I am hopeful they will post the modified port schedule pretty soon... I'm sure they have a lot to figure out. We are supposed to be there on a four-ship day in late June and I think they have only four berths? I don't know if they have tender capability or if they will adjust the schedules. We have excursions booked through X so I am going to call my vacation planner tomorrow and ask him to keep an eye on it for me.

Not so sure about that, seemed to be rather cosmetic (in the scheme of things). If there was damage below the water line then a dry dock would be needed.
