Allure - Just Back - Observations

Recommended Posts

The Viking Crown was the only inside bar with a view of the ocean. I always went to the Viking Crown until it was taken away from most passengers. I go to inside bars without windows and still enjoy myself. I wish the remodel had provided a public inside bar with a view of the ocean.

Definitely a great thought. It is certainly a common theme with the Oasis class ships. I think an OV room is a big plus on these ships because ocean views are harder to come by than ships of old.

I am just back from my eighth cruise on Allure. It had been about a year since I sailed and must say, I was disappointed. The crew is great and, of course, all the activities such as flow rider, rock climbing and skating rink, make it easy to find things to do especially if you are into outdoor activity while on a ship. Cruising on these mega-liners has changed the experience. Call me old fashion but I don't feel it is a plus when you never see the water unless you are on your balcony or on the top deck. This cruise reinforced the feeling that it is just a big floating resort trying hard (unsuccessfully) to be Disney. .

This is a strange review. If you have been on the Allure 8x wouldn't that indicate you like the ship and know what to expect? There should be no surprise. Not much changed after dry dock last year. What was your exact disappointment or surprise? It took 8 cruises to realize there are not a lot of ocean views and it feels like a big floating resort?

Deck 17 was a suite deck from the inception so no loss to public space there. The VCL is a lost but honestly it was under utilized. Not the bean counters in Miami fault but lack of activity planned by the cruise director.

I don't think the intent is to make the Oasis class feel like a luxury ship. However, RC is trying to provide an experience for those willing to pay the cost. I have no desire to sail on a small ship luxury line but enjoy the Oasis class and CLS. I guess I'm the type of person RC is catering to.

I said I wouldn't eat in the WJ on the Oasis class ships because there are too many other food options. One night on my recent Oasis cruise, I noticed nothing in the MDR appealed to me so I decided to give the WJ a try. I actually preferred the WJ at dinner to the MDR. There was much more of a selection in the WJ. The MDR menu hasn't changed in awhile. As a frequent cruiser you don't get a variety. The one night I went to WJ on my recent Oasis cruise there was a huge sushi table set up. This wouldn't appeal to someone who doesn't like sushi but it was an option I've never seen in the MDR. There was also white rice available in the WJ. I believe every meal is better with white rice so another WJ win for me. Food is subjective so what appeals to one may not appeal to someone else.

RC has many ships with different layouts, cabin choices, passenger capacity etc so people will continue to sail. Maybe after this 9th sailing on the Allure you now realize the Oasis class is not for you.

I just got off the same cruise. We were in a Jr Suite in a great spot on deck 6. I can't tell you how much I loved this ship/cruise! We have been on at least a dozen Royal Caribbean cruises ranging from the Viking Serenade to the Anthem and many in between. This cruise on the allure was by far my favorite!.., and to top it off it was free!! No complaints here. Just a side note.. We were in the casino every night and did not ever look at the rugs! Lol

Sorry to hear of your disappointment...especially since you've sailed her many times before.

We were on Allure in April. Food is subjective but we had no issues and quite enjoyed (ok...Sorrentos is not the best pizza, but all else was great). The only time we had issues with being too crowded as in the Windjammer at 8:30am on a port day...but that was to be expected. Otherwise, we used the interactive screens and was fine. But yeah, more cabins means more passengers.

Again, sorry for your bad cruise. Personally we loved it and would sail her again in a heartbeat (money aside)

Carpet with holes in it at casino entrance:eek:

Must of been looking for that, as I never noticed it and I was in and out of that place quite a lot.:)

I did notice a piece of wallpaper slightly torn on one of the hallway walls on deck 7, that did it for me, I will never sail Allure again, how dare they not have the decorators miss such a ghastly sight.

;) hope they don't try and find that piece of wallpaper:rolleyes:

Observation: for someone who really does not care about food, sure made plenty of references to poor offerings and quality, just sayin

That is his opinion, and he is entitled to it. To each his own

Sorry you didn't enjoy your cruise, there were 16 of us that just got off this cruise , some newbies and we all loved it, all different ages 59-18yrs, I would hardly let decor or upkeep ruin my cruise, the windjammer I was only in there 1 time because there are so many other choices, like the addicting hot dogs~

are there things I was disappointed in sure did I let it ruin my cruise nope, I never went hungry and someone cooked and cleaned for me all week what is there to complain about..

I was on the Allure May 1st, and carpets were not worn, everything was really enjoyable, it had been about 8 years since we went on RCCL, but the only slight disappointment was the food in the dining room was just so so, BUT that was comparing to years ago. Have been told all cruise lines are more profit conscience. We have booked the Harmony for Nov 2017, and are really looking forward to it!!

Sorry to the OP that this Allure cruise did not meet expectations. We have not cruised on Allure but have her booked next April and we are really hoping the cruise meets our expectations.

We were on Allure in May. Had such a great time, we booked Harmony while onboard. I hadn't cruised Royal since the 90's so I was blown away with the sheer number of activities. Plus, I have Celiac, an autoimmune disease to gluten. Allure staff handled my allergy really well. I felt I had the most GF food options than on any other line Iine I've sailed since being diagnosed. Loved the GF pizza at Sorentos!

OP, I'm sorry your latest Allure cruise didn't meet your expectations.

Thank you for your review and your thoughts about Allure. We will have to agree to disagree about the mega ships. I loved Oasis each of the 3x I was on her and can't wait to try Allure/Anthem/Harmony. However, the mega ships are not for everyone and, fortunately, there's a style of ship out there for every type of cruiser. Happy sailing on your future cruises!

We take some cruises just as transportation between ports (i.e. the Med), some just for R &R (Celebrtity/HAL), some because they're just too inexpensive to pass up (last one on CCL and we live in SoFla within easy driving distance of a number of ports) and some are ship as destination (Allure, Oasis etc.).

We are booked on our first cruise on Allure this December. A great rate with perks was offered and we grabbed it. I am very excited as we've never done this class of ship before. Yes we've been to all of the ports and have taken 15+ cruises so we may not even get off the ship and living in SoFla the beach or a pool in the winter isn't the thrill it is for those from colder climates. And yes we know all of the mainstream lines have cut back in order to keep prices down, but I will tell you now that unless someone gets sick or hurt, we will have a FABULOUS cruise. We won't be working, or cooking or cleaning. we will be on VACATION.

Attitude, the difference between ordeal and adventure

I have never been on Allure or any Oasis class as of yet so cannot comment to the appearance and feel, but just re reading the OP original post. It is possible that the OP worded the original post incorrectly and some are jumping to incorrect conclusions. As you said the post is confusing but maybe the OP meant that they returned from their 8th cruise in general , and the 8th was on Allure. Some assumed the OP sailed on Allure 8x but maybe it's the first time but the 8th cruise. It is all about perception . If this is true maybe some of you can give the OP a break because everyone is entitled to their opinion. Maybe the OP will come back and clarify what they meant.
