Topless Sunbathing On Balcony??

No....there are not cameras in your room or specifically on your balcony. But there are hundreds of cameras around the ship and some of the outside cameras do show some of the balconies clearly. I do not know if they have a "zoom" feature or not.

But if I wanted to go topless on my own balcony I would.

It is not "inappropiate" as it is "my" balcony for the trip. Now, if the ship's camera happens to catch something...I seriously doubt it would give them a thrill (seeing me that is)...but if it did happen to give them a thrill then so be it. If a neighbor looked around the divider and saw me.....then that is their problem if they didn't like it.

I am always cautious about looking around the divider because no telling what I will see. However, Mr. Ski will look around in a heartbeat if he hears the neighbors out there because he is a friendly guy and loves meeting people so he will stick his head around to strike up a conversation. If we are your neighbors....then definitely go for it...give the poor guy a thrill!

But, no, sorry....didn't mean to imply there were cameras actually on your balcony....just lots of cameras around the ship that do include the outside of the ship (balconies) and can be seen on the bridge.

Go for it if you want.

Paul....I agree we Americans are prudes. And I am a big prude if that is what you want to call it. I don't care what anyone else does.....nudity doesn't bother me to see....but with a body like mine there is no way I would do it. Not prudish......just protecting the world from nausea!

My parents were cruising and when their ship pulled into port it passed a military boat (another country's) with sailors all lined up at attention along the railings. All of a sudden these young men started smiling and barely holding themselves together...turns out a young lady on a balcony of the cruise ship had decided to lift her shirt for them. The balconies were enclosed enough that other passengers couldn't see her--just watch the sailors' reactions. The story got around the ship later.

Actually that reminds me of a funny story Mr. Ski likes to tell about me.

Our very first cruise was our honeymoon cruise. We were in an oceanview (big window...but no balcony) on deck 4 on Song of America. Well, on SOA the gangway was located on deck 4 at most of the islands (this was many years ago). I burn very easily and had not gone to the tanning bed ahead of time. Well I overdid it in the sun one day and fried my body. (not good for the honeymoon!). Anyway, I couldn't wear clothes, couldn't stand for the sheet to touch me (much less dh...not fun!). Anyway, so there I was no clothes on, no sheet to cover me, etc. when we pulled in to port (don't remember which one) early one morning. Well, we had left the curtains wide open when we went to sleep. Well.....we wake up and there are the dock workers staring in our window from the dock....looking at my poor scorched body totally naked. Funny now....but not so funny years ago when I was so young. LOL!

I'm just wondering if anyone can see onto my balcony IF I wanted to go topless? I need to know if those on deck 10 can see onto my balcony on deck 9. I'm not sure if I'll go topless but if there is the possibility.....

She was just doing her part to uplift the morale of the soldiers.;)

I am not specifically familiar with the deck 9 and deck 10 aft balconies on the Voyager class ships but based on my experience I would say if you are far enough out on the balcony to get sunshine then yes there is a chance that someone from an above deck might be able to see you.

You might want to start a new thread and make the title more specific so that people that have personal experience will look at it and answer it. (Just a thought.) I would do something like...."Voyager class decks 9 & 10 aft...can someone see me if I sunbathe topless on balcony". I don't know if all of that will fit in the title or not...but if it doesn't however much does show will let people know more specifically what info you are looking for. That way people that have actually had those cabins will know to look at your thread and answer. (Like I said earlier....just a suggestion.) Sorry I can't be of more help. Have never had aft on 9 or 10 on Voyager class.

Good luck....hopefully someone can give you the info you are seeking.

I don't believe people above you can see you on your balcony. People have to really swing there head around to see you in the balcony (next door to you). I wouldn't worry about someone on the ship, I would worry about the outsiders.....hehe....

Like someone has mentioned here before, Just Do It!!!!! your on vacation and want to be free and open ;) .....and plus what are the chances you will see the same people again (okay maybe) but slim.....

P.S. If someone gets to watch and gets to enjoy a cheap thrill...by all means let them...LOL:p

I would say go for it.......

Regarding the cameras.

I´ve been on a few tours of the navigational bridge and the bridge personel has a pretty good view of the side balconies and they do have cameras monitoring the side of the ships too. Though I don´t think they are for spying to the balconies they have some pretty good views.

Anyway I doubt they care about what anybody does on the balcony.

I was in an aft on Deck 10 of AOS (sorry, don't remember the number!) and was out on my balcony in my birthday suit just about every day of the cruise. We had gone up to the Windjammer to check the view on the first day and were satisfied that unless I walked out and leaned on the railing no one could see anything. Fortunately our neighbors on either side never poked their heads around -- which, when you come to think about it, is actually quite rude -- just like looking into someone's window! Anyway, for me full frontal vitamin D is one of the pleasures of having a balcony, and we plan on doing exactly the same on Explorer on November 27!

Also, about the "topless deck only on European itineraries" thing, one of the ships we were on (Radiance, maybe?) had a "St. Tropez" deck in front of the main pool area accessible by a short stairway that had several topless people out there. This was an Eastern Caribbean itinerary. They were fine -- it was the young guy who was massaging his wife/girlfriend's boob that kinda bothered me!

PS -- Hi, there, Skiiergirl! How've you been??

We had a deck 10 side balcony on Voyager. You can see only at the rail below on deck 9 and 8 - so I could see when people were at the rail but there was plenty of sun on the balcony without standing at the rail. No ship's camera can see INTO your balcony, only down the sides of the ship.

And you can watch the ship's bridge from the peek-a-boo bridge. there were no monitors of security cameras, only the maneuvering camera views aft and sides. Security cameras are, I am sure, being watch by some ship security center.

But when you sit on your balcony in your chair there is NO PART OF THE SHIP that could look into your balcony except for a long necked nosy next door neighbor!!

You'd probably be surprised how many ladies try to get the "men on the rails" to look by "flashing". I can neither confirm nor deny that it happened to me more than once, and that was just pulling into P'Can (Port Canaveral)!

Just as an oh by the way, they have occupancy sensors in the room, that's how they can tell if you're in the room or not. Infrared sensors pick up your bodies heat signature and movement.

If I wanted to sunbathe topless on an aft balcony could I do this without any problems? Can the upper balconies see me? I'm on the Adventure on deck 9. Not sure if I'll do it but if I could ...

I was on Deck 10 Aft in November on the Voyager and I could see down quite clearly onto several balconies the deck below me. You could scoot back to the back where you couldn't be seen, but then you would not be in the sun.

You will have 500 posters bustin the door down to be helpful if you put topless or thongs in your thread title. Funny how everyone will have words of encouragement for you but they profess to not be so inclined themselves. I say go for it. Even if someone sees you it's not like it's something no one has seen thousands of times before. There's like what, 6 billion boobs running around on the earth. I'm sure someone has seen one before. :)

Who cares - your're on a cruise and won't see anyone ever again anyway! Like they say at Nike Just do it! :)

Not always true! On our last cruise, we met an older couple that we played "let it ride" with every night in the casino.

About 2 months later - at our daughter's Pre-school graduation, they were there for their grandson!

LOL - glad we weren't nude in the casino!

Also - On the Carnival Destiny last year - they did have a topless sunning area. Way up top and the railings had a mesh that made it hard to look through.

And Costa Cruise Lines have nude areas on the ships. And on their private islands you were aloud to sun nude anywhere on the beach. We saw several as a matter of fact my husband got a kick out of this. I beleive that this is due to the higher volume of european cruisers on their ships.
