Hello,

If you book a free cabin through a Casinos at Sea promotion, are you required to gamble a certain amount while on that cruise?

never heard that you are required to gamble a certain amount. How much you gamble will affect how you are booked for your next cruise tho

Some get a cruise certificate from land-based casinos and I have read here that some of them choose not to gamble at all on board. There is no requirement that comes with these cruise offers. We have done about a dozen of these cruises for balcony cabins using certificates from Caesars/Harrahs.

Since we DO like to gamble on board, we started getting offers of cruises directly from CAS however we have only been offered inside or ocean view. (We don't gamble on board at same levels of play as Vegas;))

Even with cruises we booked directly with CAS we have never been given any indication that there is a requirement to play. However, since we want to continue to get cruises from CAS, we will continue to play onboard.

Figure at least 3000 points in a week BUT you also have to lose nowadays as they base it on your actual losses, theoretical loss, & time gambling which all affect your comp level for your next cruise.

The newest thing I am seeing is if you have multiples booked they now need permission to book you another.I have had 9 or 10 booked at a time with no issues and I was told I needed permission as i have 6 booked now.

Times are changing......

and a side tip: if you and your travelling partner are CAS members AND all charges are going to the same credit card.... then go see a Casino Host to have your CAS Cards linked. 90% of the time they will do it for you in advance but it never hurts to confirm..... linked cards accumulate points a little faster

They aren't going to throw you off at the first port if you don't play in the casino. :) As said above, it only matters if you want to book another cruise.

Best advice that I have received right here on Cruise Critic is to call CAS a week after you return from a cruise and see what you qualify for. No obligation to book when you call, but it helps your planning. I currently have two future cruises booked using CET certificates and two directly comped from CAS. Haven't yet tried to book more to see if they will limit that.

Thanks to everyone that shares their own information.....maybe we can all figure this out together before they change it again!:D

No, but the perks are based on spend so if you don't gamble, you loose the benefits associated with that, which would likely be your next cruise.

All our 16 NCL cruises have been either comped from CAS, or using a certificate from a land based casino. Usually we did better using CAS, UNTIL recently. Now if you win, CAS will not comp rooms, you are no value to them if you win! DH was lucky enough to win first night. Was told only first night of his play counted towards future comps (even thought DH played a lot, accruing many more points during the week) because he was playing with their money(his winnings). Once $$ goes into DH pocket--it's his not theirs. Even spoke to many supervisors and Miami--only discount given, as he played with winnings, and can use his winnings to book his own cruise, couldn't believe what they were saying. So different than it was, and so different from land based casinos. They want their money and you to return. So now we using land based certificates, and have no obligation to gamble on the ship. We will continue to cruise, but gamble where we are appreciated

Safe sailing
