chismrules Posted July 19, 2016 #1 Share Posted July 19, 2016 ok I've confused myself, we will be on Carnival and will be in St. Thomas 11-7 according to Carnival. Is this island time or eastern time because we will be going out of Fla?
O2B@Cagain Posted July 19, 2016 #2 Share Posted July 19, 2016 St Thomas is on Atlantic Standard Time. This is the same time as Eastern Daylight Time, but an hour earlier than Eastern Standard. Make sense?
zqvol Posted July 26, 2016 #3 Share Posted July 26, 2016 In addition to what was mentioned above, you need to be aware that generally CCL ships do not change clocks, instead they remain on the time at the port of departure.
tiff123 Posted July 26, 2016 #4 Share Posted July 26, 2016 I'd like to figure this out as well. If Carnival says 11am - 7pm, if that is EST (assuming you took off from Florida and the ship stays on the time of the port of departure) then when you arrive it is really 12pm in St. Thomas and 8pm when you leave, correct? The reason I am trying to figure this out is because the time of year we are going it gets dark early, and I need to know how much daylight to plan for an excursion. O2B@Cagain Posted July 26, 2016 #5 Share Posted July 26, 2016 If they are giving you ship's time, and it's after November 6 when DST ends in Big America, yes, it will be an hour later. The sun sets around 5:40- 5:45 in November (AST). In the summer it sets at around 7pm. The length of night and day is fairly equal throughout the year in the tiny latitudes.
