We've booked a guaranteed obstructed balcony on Royal Princess for a cruise in

December, has anyone been on this type of balcony, any comments would be helpful.

Check here for pictures and descriptions of the obstructed view balconies n Royal/Regal. Most of the time, the obstruction is minimal, if that..https://sites.google.com/site/royalregalprincess/home/8-emerald

Thanks for the information. Our guaranteed obstructed balcony is only 100.00 more than an inside so we thought we'd take a chance. Of course any cabin is a good cabin as long as you're on a cruise.

You have the link to the pictures. Your worst case scenario would be a lifeboat in front of your balcony. That would block your view to just above the balcony railing. If you have a ship's tender outside, they don't come up as high. and from there, everything else is gravy.

I was on Royal Princess and had one of these obstructed balcony's mid ship.

The top of the life boat came to about the floor of our balcony, or just below or higher. You can also get a balcony that has medal work (that hold up the life boat) balcony height and could be in you way. But you still have a view. I have been in this type on Regal Princess, as well as the other kind.

I have been in this type of cabin 5 times and don't remember the view being bad. The obstruction did not really hinder our views.

Check out this thread. It has lots of pictures of them.

It seems to me that it is the other way around, the tenders are higher. We had an obstructed deluxe balcony on the Royal in Feb. and there was very little obstruction from the lifeboat.

We have "obstructed view" cabins booked for our next two Royal cruises - on purpose. We've picked the forward cabins with metal railing for the over extra large balcony! Our balcony (108 and 110 respectively) are about 2-4Xs the size of a standard balcony - which is awesome! I don't care about not having a glass balcony at all! Had metal balconies on the old Regal - worked just fine.

So, some of those "obstructed views" are really great bargains, especially when they come in less expensive than a standard balcony..... It's worth checking out for specifics....

We're looking forward to our metal obstruction as well. L101 on the Regal. It'll be our first time in a balcony.

Thanks everyone for your comments. We're really looking forward to our fist time on the Royal, we're Diamond on Princess but never been on the Regal or the Royal.

FWIW, Diamond is a level on Royal Caribbean, not Princess.. Princess levels are Gold, Ruby, Platinum and Elite..
