BigJH Posted July 30, 2016 #1 Share Posted July 30, 2016 Is it better for me to have them charge my card / account as per option 1 where they sort the exchange out it have my card provider do it - I am from the UK and will be using a UK Visa? excitedofharpenden Posted July 30, 2016 #2 Share Posted July 30, 2016 I always do the second option. Depends who your card issuer is, but I've always found it better ticking the second box. Phil
Tom Baker Posted July 30, 2016 #3 Share Posted July 30, 2016 Absolutely, definitely, without question let Visa do it, don't let the ship do it for you. :)
Beanb41 Posted July 31, 2016 #4 Share Posted July 31, 2016 Your credit card provider will give you the exchange rate on the day the transaction is processed. The cruise line will give you a rate determined by a third party which may or may not include commissions and could be as much as 14 days out of date. I would always use the bank or credit card rate of exchange
BigJH Posted July 31, 2016 Author #5 Share Posted July 31, 2016 Great - thanks. Last thing I will be doing before packing the car and setting off for Southampton in about an hour!!!
Ladesign Posted July 31, 2016 #6 Share Posted July 31, 2016 Dont be too hasty . Usually its best to take option 2 . However the 'official celebrity exchange rate' only changes a few times per year. Last year I bought OBC at a ridiculously good rate from Cel. UK I would suggest give them a call and ask what rate they are using today . My Halifax clarity card gives me the Bank Rate ( not tourist rate which is inferior). today that is $1.3234 for £1. Hope this helps - enjoy your boat trip [emoji41]

Your card will give a better exchange rate, never known them not to anyway.
