Kyndal93 Posted August 9, 2016 #1 Share Posted August 9, 2016 (edited) Sailing on the Oasis of the Seas in November, 7 night Eastern Caribbean. The last RC cruise I went on was in 2012 on Mediterranean Cruise, and I was 19 and ready to party but it seemed that there wasn't many partyers on the ship, mostly older people and families. The ship was dead around 1am. Is this what it is like on most RC cruises? I'm going with a big group of friends aged 23-25 and we are big drinkers and gamblers and like to stay out all night. I am just wondering if RC is just not a party boat or if it was just because I was on a very expensive cruise with older people my first go around. Thanks in advance! OCruisers Posted August 9, 2016 #2 Share Posted August 9, 2016 Welcome to Cruise Critic! :) No Problem -- You & your friends will have ample places to play and party on Oasis! Enjoy! :D
Rare silentbob007 Posted August 9, 2016 #3 Share Posted August 9, 2016 Med cruises, especially on a line like RCI, tend to be more sedate. They are more port intensive and you have a lot of people who are trying to see a lot every day. Caribbean cruises tend to be much more chill because there isn't quit the "have to see everything, go-go-go!" attitude.
camofwilliamsburg Posted August 9, 2016 #4 Share Posted August 9, 2016 (edited) I personally would not have picked that ship for your age group. I might have gone with Voyager or the Freedom Class ships for the atmosphere you are looking for. The Oasis class is geared towards family more ...but as a whole the entire RCCL is more family oriented than others. There is a lot of things offered for you and your friends though. mattpro Posted August 9, 2016 #6 Share Posted August 9, 2016 The 4-5 day cruises are more for the party set. Think Independence of the Seas. Short time to get done what you're trying to do and there are a lot of others trying to do the same thing. Makes for some interesting situations . (: You can definitely make your own party on the Oasis. There is a nightclub, Blaze, that is open quite late. And the stronger the people there are partying, the later and harder they go. Food is available until late at Sorrento's and almost 24/7 at Café Promenade, to fuel that party. Casino stays open late, and there are bars that stay open late. (there is a bar in Blaze, of course) Pools and hot tubs are open late. (there is always something open, even when some are closed for cleaning) The Boardwalk and Central Park areas never "close" although they don't necessarily have something "going on" there. Caribbean cruises tend to be much more chill because there isn't quit the "have to see everything, go-go-go!" attitude. Med Cruises very much depend on where you go from and when you go. The demographics change considerably e.g. UK out of school holidays is a much older clientele & from Barcelona a more diverse population which are perhaps more interested in touring. (: Dear friend, I understand your concerns. I have sailed Allure on the Caribbean (Oasis' sister) during spring break, and there are parties every night. BUT, the attendees are kinda... boring, the DJs suck, and some nights can be so boring, that the Cruise Director calls to he entertainers and actors to join the parties, just to make the parties look "successful", when they really don't. If your group is active enough, like party animals, then you will enjoy, but YOU must be willing to set the ambient. Otherwise, you'll be bored. Since your sailing it's on November, don't expect a young crowd either. If you want to have a better party experience, I've heard that Carnival and Norwegian deliver, in the caribbean, during spring break or summer. MattInFLL Posted August 10, 2016 #13 Share Posted August 10, 2016 As others have said - shorter cruises (over weekends) usually mean cheaper rates, which bring a younger crowd. I have done a lot of them, all but one on Royal, and usually there's a crowd that likes to have a good time. I like to be out late. That said oasis has so many passengers and so many options I don't think you'll have a problem. If your crew can set the pace you'll be fine. PensFan1028 Posted August 16, 2016 #16 Share Posted August 16, 2016 Pretty easy to make you own fun if you have a large enough group. Had 10 of us on Vision of the Seas a year or so ago and it may have been excessive at times :D If you are looking for a group or other "fun" people to join you... set the pace, be friendly and the hoard will follow. :p

I will be on your sailing. It is hard telling what the age group will be since the Oasis will be cruising out of Port Canaveral. Also I heard there will be a lot of people onboard from the Villages. So you know it will be full of seniors. But I imagine they will mostly be early to retire. The ship is huge and as noted above. And if you are with a bunch of friends you will have a good time. There are younger passengers on most 7 day sailings regardless of the ship. Also there are mid-aged that like to drink, party and stay up late as well. I'm sure you will have a great time. I know I will. :)
ramja96 Posted August 16, 2016 #19 Share Posted August 16, 2016 (edited) As others have said - shorter cruises (over weekends) usually mean cheaper rates, which bring a younger crowd. Actually, you're typically going to pay more for a 3-4 night cruise that sails over a weekend than you would for a cruise that sails in the middle of the week (Mon-Fri). Not trying to be nit-picky, just want to help those looking for a budget cruise. :) Edited August 16, 2016 by ramja96

(: I have been on both Oasis and Allure. While there will not be as many people partying as there would if you were sailing during spring break or summer there will be plenty of people out and about late at night. Both times I sailed in early May the bars and Promenade were packed at 1 AM The few times I sailed on Princess a number of years ago the ships were generally dead after 11 PM

tinkr2 Posted August 17, 2016 #23 Share Posted August 17, 2016 Do not worry, bars are open and you have a large enough group to set the tone. You will suck people in if you are all dancing and drinking. It won't: be full of 20 somethings, but there will be people partying... even if its oldies like me lol:D
