The line's private island in the Bahamas will be unavailable from Aug. 25 to Oct. 20, spokeswoman Vanessa Picariello said.

Yeah, we were the last cruise from NYC last week to get there. I would anticipate it'll probably take longer than expected as well.

We were just there yesterday, thoroughly enjoyed the day...but one thing critically lacking is shade. Hopefully a few new palm trees will be included!

There is plenty of shade. Walk down to cabana beach- just before it are tied and rows of chairs set in trees with full shade. Just after it- up by the bar on the hill before the lagoon area also ties and rows of chairs in the shade.

The island is going to be incredible. I just wish there was a way to make sure more ships are successful with their tenders. I remember one rocky windy winter where the majority of cruises were not able to tender there.

I would love to see an actual dock.

 

It's already my favorite stop so I can't wait to go after it's done. I'd be happy on a cruise that just had a sea day, GSC, sea day, GSC, etc...

My guess is that it is not possible to build a dock there. DCL searched long and hard for an island they could dredge to build a dock and I believe finding one was a challenge.

Looks amazing but seems to be a bit much for just a few hours stay. Villas 1&2 bedroom??? will they be making this an over night destination

The web site still showing GSC. In May, 2016, when the Gem needed more than 24 hours in a port for repair purposes, we skipped GSC and went straight to Nassau, docking at noon on the scheduled GSC day, staying overnight, and leaving the following day as scheduled, plus extra OBC per cabin.

It's a shame, because it was the best destination of my GEM cruise last year. I was lucky that we were able to get to the island without incident, but I hear it gets cancelled often due to weather, waves, and ship problems associated with tendering vs. docking.

Just looked at the link and it shows tram stops. Could someone please explain? Is the Cay that big? I'm really not sure what I expect to see when we visit (hopefully) at the end of the year.
