Rare deefer Posted August 29, 2016 #1 Share Posted August 29, 2016 Unfortunately my in-laws will not be joining us on our Alaskan cruise at the end of this week. We booked them through CAS - phoned CAS 7 days ago - told them had to cancel the cruise - received an email while on the phone with the rep confirming the cancellation showing that the cancellation charges were the initial "admin fee" and the travel protection (total $638). We had prepaid a fair number of things, the daily service charges, 2 excursions, a spa pass etc. on our credit card. After doing research on this board I was expecting to wait weeks to get this back. Checked my credit card statement on line today - the expected return posted to my credit card this morning. So not bad - cancelled 12 days out - expected refund posted 7 days later. Hopefully you don't have to cancel a cruise - but this was my experience with refunds on prepaid "stuff".

Was also quite happy with the Carnival "stuff" being refunded and very happy with my travel insurance for the rest, including a flight from Texas to Ohio, that was not part of our original plan. Rare sparks1093 Posted August 29, 2016 #5 Share Posted August 29, 2016 What is CAS? Casinos At Sea. OP, NCL has always processed refunds quickly if it only involves shore operations and I am glad that is continuing. Receiving a refund if you've actually boarded the ship can be quite a different experience unfortunately.
karenpstok Posted August 29, 2016 #6 Share Posted August 29, 2016 i just cancelled and rebooked a cruise with another company. My Cruise next deposit was in my account in 4 days and my refund on my credit card was in 6 days. I too thought it would have been way longer
tomk3212 Posted August 30, 2016 #7 Share Posted August 30, 2016 Years ago we also had to cancel a cruise on short notice due to a hospitalization. We had pre-paid the gratuities and received a prompt refund before the cruise was even finished! We also got back our "cruise rewards" that we had used to pay for a portion of the cruise itself. Unfortunately we didn't have travel insurance but after writing a letter to Kevin Shaheen (the NCL CEO at that time) and explaining the situation NCL did give us a portion of the cruise fare we had paid (20%, if I remember correctly) plus the aforementioned cruise rewards $$. Needless to say that from that point onward we ALWAYS purchase the travel insurance! Glad that things worked out for you also. And yeah it's not fun cancelling a cruise. Tom K.
