doghouse09 Posted September 21, 2016 #1 Share Posted September 21, 2016 We have an early flight into LAX but our boarding time on the Jewel is 12.00, is there anything to do around the port to pass the time?
cssc123 Posted September 21, 2016 #2 Share Posted September 21, 2016 LAX is NOT really near the port by any means I want to say a half hour drive or so. Its down past Long Beach if I remember correctly. From what we saw, there wasn't a whole lot to do within walking distance to the ship and there isn't really much to do within walking distance to LAX. That whole area is very CAR heavy - just to rent a car at LAX you need to take a van to car rental area. Even though the drive is only a half hour or so, if your taking a NCL transfer, it will stop at literally every terminal (unless your coming in at the last one of the loop) this will eat up time. The same would be very true to those shared van shuttle services unless you pay for a private trip.
Barb Nahoumi Posted September 21, 2016 #3 Share Posted September 21, 2016 How early do you arrive at LAX? Do you have transportation arranged to get you to the port? After landing, I'd probably pick up my luggage, find a place forvcoffee, then head over to the port.
triptolemus Posted September 21, 2016 #4 Share Posted September 21, 2016 The Jewel departs in San Pedro (Port of Los Angeles), not Long Beach, which is to the south/southeast. While the drive maps at about 1/2 hour, any manner of problems can cause you delays. Arrange your transportation and head to the port and drop your crap. If you really are that early, there is always the USS Iowa to visit which is docked right next to the Jewel. If your transportation really puts you in San Pedro any time before 8 or 9 am, you could have them drop you at Crowne Plaza and have some breakfast or peruse the couple of other businesses nearby to find something to eat -- or a drink! I know one bar there that opens at 6 am... :) Other than that, there isn't much going for San Pedro around the port in the time you will have. cb at sea Posted September 21, 2016 #5 Share Posted September 21, 2016 Just head to the ship...as long as boarding has started, they don't make you wait until "your" time.
roger001 Posted September 21, 2016 #6 Share Posted September 21, 2016 Be at the port at 10:30.
OCruisers Posted September 21, 2016 #7 Share Posted September 21, 2016 We always go ahead and get the ship. :)
casofilia Posted September 21, 2016 #8 Share Posted September 21, 2016 Get to the boat as early as you reasonably can so you get on board early; remember San Pedro is quite a way from LAX. As someone said get a coffee at LAX and find your transport. San Pedro itself is about a 20 minute walk from the port and is not the most salubrious place in the USA!! Zippeedee Posted September 21, 2016 #11 Share Posted September 21, 2016 Traffic can be really heavy getting into San Pedro because of everyone disembarking in the morning. It took us well over an hour from LAX.
