Hurricane Matthew Thread

I'm hoping the Port Everglades is a contingency plan, but at least it seems the cruise will still happen. How does the port arrival work in these instances? Do you just show up to Port Canaveral whenever you were going to normally and they put you on a bus to Ft. Lauderdale?

I'm trying to figure out where we will be leaving from! Is the Fantasy arriving and departing from Port Everglades on Sunday or Port Canaveral? It appears that Port Everglades has the ship on their schedule but DCL still shows Port Canaveral? Will be driving down tomorrow and trying to figure out where to go. Along with trying to figure out new excursion plans and be somewhat productive at work :) This wait and see approach while necessary is frustrating all the while keeping in mind that other people are in harms way and feeling guilty about even worrying about vacation plans :( This is the first fall cruise we have attempted (may be the last) normally do Disney World in the fall.

At this point even Port Canaveral is not guaranteed. They had 107mph gusts earlier this morning.

I haven't heard any status updates on any of the Bahama ports yet.

The worst of the hurricane went over PC between 5 and 7 this morning. One newscast said the maximum winds were 115 mph which was a lot better than the 145 predicted. Haven't heard anything as to damage or status. As of 7, they were waiting for daylight and less wind and said they would start inspecting the area about noon.

Has anyone found the official Port Canaveral schedule? I've only found this past fiscal year's schedule not the one that starts this month.

I'm hoping the PE is a back up plan as well. Seems the PC area is still being surveyed and I would think would be hard to do if there's no power.

Causeways were just reopened in Cape Canveral/Merritt Island.

Also reports that Coast Guard might not be able assess the port until tomorrow:

Apparently the port was flooded. I can't confirm any of this other than the causeways being opened as that is being reported by news sources.

My understanding is that there were only two vessels that remained in the port, the Victory Casino ship and the SpaceX barge. Wonder how they fared?

There were more than two, a tug and another vessel mored at Fishlips that broke free during the night, then crashed in to the Grills Seafood Deck

They ended up here:

The fantasy and dream will both be going to port Everglades this week.

Just like your spoof picture yesterday, you posted this as fact when it was a contingency plan.

Someone on the DIS found a FB account of a partner of a CM that stayed on the island during Matthew.

Firstly I'm stunned that DCL would do this. Shame on them. Every human should have been evacuated IMO.

Secondly, the storm shelters......

Not even mattresses, just floats to sleep on?

The FB message says everyone survived OK and the hurricane did not destroy the island.

If these are authentic genuine pictures, DCL really cheaped out on the crew welfare budget. I know it's not going to be the Ritz, but mattresses, pillows and sheets at least?

I'm not sure but it looks like twin size mattresses under that wooden structure on the left hand side of the picture. Maybe they planned to sleep under that for added protection?

Doubtful, storm surge/flooding would be a far greater problem in the Bahamas.

I spoke to my friend who is a researcher on CC, she is on her WDW schedule right now and wasn't there. She said this time a handful of people did stay on the island. She isn't sure why they weren't evaced which is SOP for a storm like Matthew.

And then there is the issue of what the times mean....is "heading into the port" the same as "tied up and ready for people to disembark?"

Bottom line--they can't be exact, but it will be sometime a few hours from now. Safe travels home to everyone on board!
