spunks Posted September 29, 2016 #1 Share Posted September 29, 2016 We are going to tour the American landing sites in April of 2017 and find we are having a hard time deciding between Overlord Tours and Label West. I have read that several on here liked their label West Tours in the past, but have not seen a recent review. I have seen nothing about Overlord tours. Has anyone had any experience with either of them lately? Thanks Doug
CruiserBruce Posted September 29, 2016 #2 Share Posted September 29, 2016 Overload is a wonderful company. There are several threads with recommendations on them.
Rare John Bull Posted September 29, 2016 #3 Share Posted September 29, 2016 (edited) Overload is a wonderful company. There are several threads with recommendations on them. Forgive Bruce his typo, he's been at the bourbon again ;) Yes, Overlord is probably the best-known D-Day tour operator, and I've heard only good about them. Type "Overlord" in the "search this form" box at the bottom of both the France and Britain/Western Europe forums & you'll find these threads: http://boards.cruisecritic.com/search.php?searchid=93496990 and http://boards.cruisecritic.com/search.php?searchid=93497042 Other suggestions on those threads too JB :) Edited September 29, 2016 by John Bull
Rare Turtles06 Posted September 29, 2016 #4 Share Posted September 29, 2016 It's been several years since we used Overlord, so I don't have current info. But they were great. (And expensive; you'll want to get others to join you.) Have a great trip!
flames9 Posted September 30, 2016 #5 Share Posted September 30, 2016 Overlord is probably 1 of the more talked about companies on these boards when it comes to Normandy. I chatted (email) with them and they were very professional. I ended up going with label West and they were great! But it was just my wife and I and we saw the Canadian sites! Yes it was a bit $$$, but well worth it! 1 thing to keep in mind is van sizes.....the vans are much smaller than N. American vans....so yes they can hold 8.....but not comfortably..and that was told to me by a gentleman who took an overlord tour. But you probably can't go wrong with either company..just dont wait to long as the good companies book up well in advance.
zogrand Posted October 10, 2016 #6 Share Posted October 10, 2016 In June 2013, we spent 2 days touring the D-Day sites with Julian Vernon. There were 4 of us on a private tour. He was wonderful. Not only did he give an amazing tour but we could take as much time as we wanted at each site since the tour was private. One day was the American sites and the other day was the British/Canadian sites. He comes from England so there is no problem understanding him. We were originally going to go with Overlord but they were fully booked so had to find an alternative. His resume is here: http://militarymightd-daytours.com/about.php. A private tour is expensive but for us well worth it.
CruisingAlong4Now Posted October 11, 2016 #7 Share Posted October 11, 2016 We recommend Dale Booth. http://dboothnormandytours.com/ He was fantastic. We signed up for the one day tour (8-5:30), but thought we would probably have him take us back to our hotel in Bayeaux around noon. The day flew by and we were mesmerized by his stories and pictures of the war. His timing for all the stops, including the American Cemetery, were spot on. Definitely worth the money. Door to door service from our hotel in Bayeaux.
